I found out the hard way that somewhwere along the line in their merger, UPS did not require UPS Stores to inform UPS package recipients that they do not have to accept refused packages without charging you. You see, over the last couple months, I've used the convenience of my local UPS Store to return 2 unopened, refused packages. Seperate clerks on both occasions told me that the packages were not marked for return and to do so I had to pay for new shipping.

Today, I happened to have another package which I needed to return and since I had become suspicious and was in the area of my local UPS hub during the course of errands, I took the package with me. Low and behold, I was told by 3 clerks that ALL packages sent UPS are eligible for refused delivery which I sort of knew, but for some reason, still expect that most people will be honest in an established retail customer service based business.

Livid, I went home to call the UPS Store and suprisingly, the owner picked up! I explained the situation, and all she did was duck the question. She told me that she is charged for every package picked up from her site. I flat out said that had I been told that, I would have been more than happy to take care of dropping my packages off to the hub myself. Instead, she just said that a lot of "her customers" do it her way. Well, they do that because they don't know to ask the ?s I was forced to ask today. Pretty dishonest, wouldn't you say?
