While reviewing my bank statement I discovered this morning, not one but TWO unauthorized charges from a company called 'Reservation Rewards.' I went to their website and rang up their customer service line (they were actually quite nice and entirely bowed to my demands) to find that it was US Airways who the perpetrator, when I bought my ticket to FL they signed me up for the Reservation Rewards service, to the tune of 10$ a month, entirely unauthorized!! Here's my "I-just-cannot-believe-your-business-practices" e-mail to their customer service:

Dear US Airways: On 6/21/07 I bought a roundtrip ticket from you (DCA-MCO) over the internet, using my debit card. I made this purchase in good faith. Today, while reviewing my bank statement I notice not one but two unauthorized charges. Both originated from US Airways and were from Reservations Rewards. I am absolutely incensed with your business practices. Such audacity, taking my credit card information and without my knowledge charging me for a service I am thoroughly not interested in nor did I authorize.

RESPONSE FROM US AIRWAYS CUSTOMER SERVICE: The Reservation Rewards is a pop-up. They are not affiliated with US Airways. In order to have the charges reversed, call their 800 number on your statement and tell them you do not want their service.

EXTORTION?

WHERE DO PEOPLE GET THE WORDS FOR THESE POSTS. LOOK UP EXTORTION IN A DICTIONARY. Extortion, outwresting, or exaction is a criminal offense, which occurs when a person either unlawfully obtains money, property or services from a person, entity, or institution through coercion or intimidation or threatens a person, entity, or institution with physical or reputational harm unless he is paid money or property. Refraining from doing harm is sometimes euphemistically called protection. Extortion is commonly practiced by organized crime groups. The actual obtainment of money or property is not required to commit the offense. Making a threat of violence or a lawsuit which refers to a requirement of a payment of money or property to halt future violence or lawsuit is sufficient to commit the offense. The four simple words "pay up or else" are sufficient to constitute the crime of extortion. An extortionate threat made to another in jest is still extortion. Exaction refers not only to extortion or the unlawful demanding and obtaining of something through force, additionally, exact in its formal definition means the infliction of something such as pain and suffering or to make somebody endure something unpleasant
