I have been using online billpay for numorous payments for several years. On April 26th I requested my auto loan payment be processed and US Bank processed it twice. Their online system does not have a page you can view to see pending payments, nor do they e-mail you when an online payment is being processed.

On April 28th, my payday, I went to pay another bill and I had insufficient funds in my account! I ran home, pulled up my checking account online only to see my car payment was debited twice. I called US Bank and was transferred to Erick in their "excellerated dept". After an hour and a half of discussions I was told this was not their fault, I must have asked for two payments. Please note, I did NOT submit two, nor hit the submit button more than one time.

I was advised by Erick that US Bank will send me a certified check for the dupe payment and it would take 1-2 business days for processing. I requested Fed Ex and it was denied.

The following week I called Erick on Tues, Wed. and Thurs. and left a voice message...no callback or email - and NO CHECK! On Friday (7 days since my initial call) I was informed by Erick that US Bank will not issue my check until May 10 unless I can prove the $$ has been debited from my account. I faxed 7-8 pages of information.

In the meantime, my checking account is not overdraft over $200 including bounced check fees. I should also mention, that USBank reversed the double payment from my loan's principle on April 28th, yet I have not been reimbursed. So..I am paying interested on my loan for $$ paid, plus they are holding my money without reimbursement.

I received my check.... almost 3 weeks past the time I reported the online payment error. To the above post, you are correct. I didn't make myself clear this wasn't a payment made via a checking account billpay system. It was, however, still US Bank and their website I used. My loan is through US Bank and I relied on their payment system provided to customers. I was wrong.

Rob, I think that is the whole problem

Rob, You should have used the online bill payment service from whatever bank you have your checking account with to pay US Bank. The way you explained it and what we all assumed is that you had actually used your bank's online bill pay service to pay US Bank. All you did was made an online payment with the bank who has your loan. This is NOT considered online bill pay. Big difference. Good luck getting that straightened out!

I do not have a US Bank checking or savings account. I have an auto loan through US Bank and went to my account through US Bank's URL: http://www.usbank.com. I entered my Personal ID and Password and it takes me to my Auto Loan information. I believe the US Bank associate's comments thought I had made this though Online Bill Pay with a US Bank checking account.. but this is not the case. **UPDATE** On May 10 I received a letter from US Bank telling me my check will be mailed on April 30. Funny thing is, the letter was dated May 7 (one week past the date my check was allegedly mailed) AND I still do not have my check! Eric from US Bank has started another "investigation" I am beginning to believe this word is used quite casually with US Bank. Valued customer? You decide.

our online banking is all self serve. meaning the customer is the one who schedules when a payment goes, how much and who they pay. and everything else that we have no way of scheduling. and we do have a screen that shows the customers everything that is scheduled to go out of the account as well as things that have already been scheduled out in the past. i am in the online banking department and we do have a guarentee on out billpays. if you were to call in and speak to someone else i'm sure you will find that there are people who will help you with this situation properly.

Sorry to hear of your problem

For what it's worth, Rob, 'I feel your pain'!!! I haven't had any problems, ever, with my bank's bill paying service, and I definitely am an advocate for USING your bank's bill pay service as opposed to using automatic debits from a consumer's checking account by a business. To hear of a bill payment program going wrong is not happy news. I am really surprised that U.S. Bank's online system DOESN'T show pending payments. My bank does, and you can 'sort of' track any payments scheduled, more or less. When a payment is in a pending status, there is the option to Cancel the payment, up to a certain point in time. I really am sorry to hear of your situation. Using your bank's bill pay service SHOULD be almost a foolproof method for paying your bills without giving companies access to your checking account. I truly am sorry to hear of this problem for you, but don't give up on the bill paying program. It's still a way better method than auto-debit, in my paranoid opinion lololol. If you ever switch banks, see if you can find out as much as possible about their bill payment programs before switching. If their online service DOESN'T show pending payments with an option to cancel, in a reasonable time, maybe think twice about using that bank. There are bill paying programs also available through other companies you might use, such as a credit card company, and I know that some ISPs have offered this service in the past although I don't know if they still do. Good Luck and I sure hope you get your money back ASAP.

One last note on this subject. Erick in the Excelerated dept. called the online banking dept. to see if they could verify the situation. Per the online banking agent, they told me I must have asked for 2 payments to be processed. I asked for verification to be sent to me and was denied, saying they did not have a way of proving I had. Can you relate? I feel like lil ole' me against the BIG BANK. This mess will take me 3 months before my finances are back to normal.
