Ventar Inc, of Middleburg Heights, OH is part of Cydcor scam! For those of you entering the job market in search for marketing jobs, as I am, I was mislead by their job posts on careerbuilder.com saying that they were hiring a "marketing specialist." Little did I know that the position was not working on the business contracts for their clients, Direct Energy and Quill, but going to small business, cold calling, selling them their products. How is this marketing??? On the all day, second interview I traveled an hour away with the "campaign director" visiting chinese restaurants, churches, and daycares, asking to review their gas and electric bill. I finally was confident this was part of the Cydcor scam when the campaign director gave me a breakdown of the "positions" in the company. He said I could become a manager in a few months and run my own office under another name. I asked him directly if there was a parent company and he actually mentioned cydcor, though he said that they were just affliated with Venator. I told him that Cydcor has been recieving a ton of bad press and that it has been on scam reports, his reply? "well you can google anything, McDonald's has scams."......what??

I could tell I had angered him and he asked if I was even interested in the position, and I said no. He still had work to do. So he didn't talk to me the rest of the car ride, very unprofessional behavior. THIS was an extreme waste of time and I am appauled at the misleading job posts that these companies are allowed to put online. It is simply bad business, no wonder why there is so much turnover. Similar companies I have encountered in the Cleveland area are Depere Concepts, Shur Consulting, Medra Marketing, and Paramour Industries.

best wishes,

Emily

The add (I think he or she meant to say ad here) in which I responded to was "marketing specialist." So that is a lie. Similar to the bold face lies these Cydcor companies continue to tell people so that they will fall victim to their pyramid scheme. Anyone in business will tell you there is a big difference between sales and marketing, though marketing can boost sales.

And there was nothing about the position at Venator that was Marketing. From my education and various internships ( that is how a college student gains legitimate experience), cold sales calls have been considered hmm...sales! I hope you enjoy your rewarding career, I simply ask that you don't mislead recent grads and professionals looking to utilize their education and gain meaningful experiences.

We are disappointed that Emily was not happy with her interview experience with us. We are an independently owned and operated marketing firm and we would like to address her complaints directly. “…they said they were hiring for a "marketing specialist." Little did I know that the position was not working on the business contracts for their clients, Direct Energy and Quill, but going to small business, cold calling, selling them their products. How is this marketing???” –We were in fact hiring for a Marketing Specialist position. Our primary responsibility for our clients is to grow and maintain their market share.

So we are hired to be the direct liaison between our clients and their smaller to medium sized business accounts. Seeing as how the individual in question stated she had a degree in Marketing, we thought this went without saying, but understandable, given her only experience was various internships. According to www.dictionary.com ‘Marketing’ is defines as; (1) the act of buying or selling in a market. Or (2) the total of activities involved in the transfer of goods from the producer or seller to the consumer or buyer, including advertising, shipping, storing, and selling.

“On the all day, second interview I traveled an hour away with the "campaign director" visiting Chinese restaurants, churches, and daycares, asking to review their gas and electric bill.” –Yes our Campaign director works with our client that is an Energy supplier. So he is responsible for growing and maintaining those business accounts. We do not discriminate any business and work all companies in the Cleveland Market. We also do this type of interview because we find many people who apply have no sales or marketing experience and aren't sure what to expect. This is completely ok because this is an entry level position and we do all in house training. “He said I could become a manager in a few months” –This is correct we are looking to have our managers promoted with 6-12 months upon hiring.

“I asked him directly if there was a parent company and he actually mentioned cydcor, though he said that they were just affliated with Venator.” – (We believe she meant to say affiliated here) and yes Our Campaign Director was correct, we are an independently owned and operated marketing firm. “THIS was an extreme waste of time and I am appauled at the misleading job posts that these companies are allowed to put online.” –(We believe she meant to say appalled here.) We are very sorry she felt this was a waste of her time, however the add she had responded to was titled “FULL TIME ENTRY LEVEL SALES & MARKETING MANAGER.” Which is exactly what the position is, as well as the full job description included in the add. We do apologize for any miscommunication she may have had.

We do include details in the ad as well as the first round interview that was conducted. If she felt this was something she wasn't interested in she did not have to come in for the second interview, and could have had these concerns addressed with our Manager during the preliminary interview. As far as other companies that were gone into we cannot speak on behalf on other companies, however with our fast track into management, we can understand other companies adopting a similar business model. At Venator we take pride in our employees and where they stand in our company. We only promote from within and we know all our wonderful employees work very hard. This is a sales and management position and that is not for everyone.
