Vonage has royally messed up my home phone account. Got an email of confirmation of cancellation of service and porting over to another provider. I never requested them to do that. So they have SOLD a new account to me with a temporary number that should be operational within 24-48 hours. Meanwhile, they have created a 'ticket' to investigate what happened to my old number. I requested my old number back and they said it could take up to 72 hours for them to find out what happened. So if you have my old number, please message me and I will give you my 'new' temporary number, that might work tomorrow or Saturday. I think it is crazy that they are charging me to set up a 'new' account when I never asked them to close the other account (and yes, my payments were up to date).

Directly from the FCC web site

“Slamming” is the illegal practice of switching a consumer's traditional wireline telephone company for local, local toll, or long distance service without permission. The slamming rules also prohibit unreasonable delays in the execution of an authorized switch by your local telephone company. The Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC’s) slamming liability rules provide a remedy if you've been slammed, discourage slamming by removing the profit, and protect consumers from illegal switches. The FCC’s Enforcement  Bureau can also take action against slammers

----------------------------------------------------------

This has all of the makings of you getting "slammed" by the NEW provider.  Have you had any sales calls recently about phone service?  Did you fill out any surveys or enter any "contests" recently?  As any one of those things could have been a vailed attempt for you to also approve switching your phone company.

After all why would Vonage just all of the sudden pick you out at random and switch you to another provider?   To get a fee to set up a new account?  Really...think about it.  That is a one-time fee, compared to the monthly fee they are making off of you now.  Not only that but the only way this is worth while is if they do it to thousands of customers..yet you will be hard pressed to find any other complaints.  But what you will find is hundreds if not thousands of complaints about how various phone companies are "slamming" people.

Now, you will notice that it states "traditional wireline", and Vonage is not in this category.  So this is why even if you were "slammed" there may be nothing you can do about it...unfortunatly.  The point is that it is more likely to be the company that you got switched to..not Vonage.
