I had my car serviced at the Wal-Mart Tire & Lube Express in Somerset, KY. I got an oil change and wiper blades replaced. I take a walk around the store... 20 minutes pass, so I go to check to see if my car is ready. First thing they say to me was, "Did you know you had a crack in the windshield?" (almost like they were hoping I would say "yes") Of course, I said no I never drive with a crack in the windshield. After talking to 5-6 seperate people, trying to get the story straight, I finally get the manager. Turns out that the stupid mechanic who was changing the wipers let go of one of the blades when the metal was exposed and crashed down on my windshield, which left a two inch crack. I was of course, furious. I filled out their insurance forms and they requested that I get 3 estimates for replacing the whole windshield. Long story, short... their insurance gave me the middle-rated estimate, which was $380. I didn't want to get a whole new windshield because the seals never fit right ever again, so I cashed the check they sent me and had my windshield fixed for $40. You could say I made out, but I have a crack in my windshield on my brand new car. I will never go to Wal-Mart to have my car serviced ever again, no matter how good their prices are.

I do realize that you are frusterated with this situation, and I as a member of Management For Another Mid sized Retailer. I know that it is usually policy to try to offer a depreciated amount to try to settle the claim. I also know from going to court many times defending the company I worked for, that, By Law a company is required to put your vehicle back in the same condition it was in before they screwed it up. In saying that they will try with every effort to determine if there was any prior damage to your running boards. If it is determined then even in the court of Law all you will recieve is a depreciated $ Amount. As far as the car rental I think you need to read thier expressed warranty, on the invoice . Most Companies do not assume any liability for loss of use.
