I felt sorry when I read your report but what I don't understand is why people are crazy to work for such an employer. They just opened a new Wal-Mart Supercenter near our house and proclaimed that they would create 300 jobs- fantastic ! What they did not say is that these are just part time jobs- instead of hiring 1 full time employee they prefer to hire too part time employees (no insurance, no benefits)

Amen, Sister. I would have gone to your register too!!!! You are absolutely right!!! They are rude, non-responsive, and have a total lack of feeling for their customers!!! I will never shop there again.

They were even rude to my kids, who are pre-teen with their own money. I let my kids go through the register first (always) if they want to buy their own things. 3 times they were rude to my son.

I blew up on the 3rd time and filed a report against the employee and store for harassment of a minor. You can do that in California. I just wish there were more employees like you out there!

#4UPDATE EX-employee responds

Tue, March 05, 2002

I went to work for walmart in September of 1995 at Wal-Mart #1686 in Taylorsville, Utah. Then I transferred to Wal-Mart #1185 in Austin, Texas. All the time I was with them I never had any problems and always loved my job. I praised Wal-Mart to all I talked to and always had a good evaluation. I was brought up in the old school to respect those who paid my wages and to follow rules of same people. I am 67 years old (old, fat, and ugly) and my customers always liked me. I had many who wouldn't go through anyone's line but mine because I was fast, friendly, and sympathetic to their needs. If no one on the floor could help them find or reach something, I always called a member of mgt. and got most of them what they needed. If I thought they were trying to get away with something, I called for a price check or a csm to take care of it. I saved the company dollars upon dollars. Then I made the mistake of moving back to Utah and transferred back here. I had my transfer papers and went to all three stores here with my papers but no one ever called me. Finally I called the personnel (Michele) in Austin at ll85 and asked her if she had given me a bad recommendation and she assured me it was great. Finally after two trips and several calls to #2307 to no avail. I finally went out to the store and talked to Jeff. He called Michele in Austin and from his conversation she said only good things about me. So Jeff hired me. My first day was 11-23-01, the busiest day of the year. First check I took, the display said to return the check to customer, which I had no intention of doing so I called csm and she told me that we did checks electronically and to run the check through and hand the customer the receipt and the check. So I did. What she failed to say was that there were exceptions and on them we put the check in drawer. It didn't take long for me to get my first pink slip saying I was $149.48 short. I told them what csm had told me and all that day I did as she said. But from that day on I made sure to keep checks display told me to. I was threatened that next mistake I made I would be terminated and I was given a day off with pay for that mistake. That same day a man came through my line and olympic bunnies were $4.97. I knew better so I went and checked them myself and they were $14.97. Man went with me and said he had misread the sign. I had a girl on my register so that is why I left reg. to check it myself. I was letting her train and I was helping her. On that one transaction I saved store $140.00. I know I made a mistake but it was csm also who didn't explain new procedure to me, as we didn't have electronic checking in Austin. Still Eric threatened me with my job. Then on 1-22-01 I got another pink slip for $79.00 that day I had a lady come through and her card wouldn't go through, so I called a csm. She finally came and took my receipt, but since I had a customer and a line of other customers, she took the receipt I asked her to void and said she would come back and do it. She never came back so since she didn't void, I was short again. So Eric and Elaine, (assist mgr. and head csm terminated me. Refused to give me a copy of termination so I wouldn't sign it. Then he threatened to hold my check until I did. I had 180 days of sick leave, my insurance, and my reputation ruined in one fell sweep. Since I have always prided myself on honesty, dependability, and loyalty, I just had the last 6 1/2 years wiped out and I can't sleep, certainly can't get another job since I was fired from Wal-Mart. I feel really lousy. All I receive is my social security, which is under $500.00. It's really hard.

I just thought you should know why I was fired. I have never in all my years of working (since 1970) been fired. You have people working at that store that steals, read newspapers, talk on cell phones, ignore customers, who still work there. Of course they are all young and cute and my days of that are gone. You have a csm here that goes outside for her hourly cigarette and there's no one to answer the lights most of the time. And she's the HEAD CSM.

Thank you for your time.

Yours truly,

Helen

P.S. on the 2nd pink slip, I got a printout and there had been someone else on my register while I was on a break. I didn't know that till I was checking my printout. His name was Jason brown and he didn't get a pink slip.
