WERNER Enterprises Nice to go home some time. Illinois
Werner Ent. is not the demon everyone makes it to be. I spent 8 weeks on training and got paid a nomial $300 -$325 a week during the training period. I had jerk trainers who only cared about keeping the wheels rolling and could give a rats ... about washing cloths or taking a pizzz.
After my 275 hours I was glad to get away from the second trainer as I had covered 40 states in three weeks. Althought I had driven 275 hours, I was still lacking trouble in backing. The trainers were always in a hurry and would kick me out of the seat when backing was required.
So, now I get my own truck. I was extatic to find out that I coincidentally had a truck pick up (recovery) in Salt Lake where I was from and spend a day with the family. Note, I had still not seen my wife in St Louis for two months. What a piece of junk truck. Dented all over, bad brakes and the worst chainsmoker in the world drove previous. There was something rotton in the sleeper, the sleeper lights and power ports did not work and the "jake" brake failed on a 10 mile hill. I had dirty shorts from 45K lb load going down a 6% with no engine brake.
I was told that after my first completed trip. I would be able to go home. I put in my req for a week later for three days, Fri, sat, sun. I asked on thurs, fri, sat, sun, and monday when I could go home. "Well we are busy, and we can't always get you home on the requested day". Ok. Two weeks later, I dropped the truck off at the Den terminal, left the key inside, and called the dispatcher and told them I resigned. I want to go home and do the chores only I can do......
What will be on my DAC is unsure, but I could give a rats ... at this point. My driver school always said "It's not hard, it's just new". Bull. Nothing like spending 34 hours in a parking lot or showering in a truck stop every three or four days.
I could go on and on, but if you want to start with a hard hitting corporate company, learn alot of stuff in little time, sign on with werner. There are certainly suckier companies out there.
