What are you thinking? Do you actually think that you can take time off without first getting it approved, and then still have a job when you are ready to go back? Sorry, Charlie, that is not the way it works. Instead, you have to go through the proper channels. I have to side with Werner on this one. In order to maintain a fleet (of any size) there has to be some sort of policy. If you want to actually succeed in life, you actually have to show up for work on the given date, at the given time, otherwise it is considered to be job abandonment. In some cases, the company (it does not matter which of the many out there) can even charge you with abandonment of their property as well. You CANNOT take a leave of absence without first getting it approved through you dispatcher. Sorry, you have no room to complain, I would have done the exact same thing. While I'm at it, Werner wants drivers who will actually drive for them and get the miles on the trucks. If the wheel aren't turnin' Werner isn't earnin' (and is most likely taking a loss), therefore, you (as the driver) aren't earnin' either. That is the way they look at it.

This is just a response not a rebuttal.. This was the only option they gave or that I could figure out to get a response in here. Right it seems that you can't find a company that's not cut throat anymore.. Apparently from what the old timers say there used to be honest company's that cared more about good honorable workers that did there job well and with respect but not anymore. It's all about the buttom line, but the joke's on them because that's not how you succeed. It may "seem" to work for awhile but it ultimate end will be failure to be sure. But don't give all the credit to the big company but also to the government in there business with all the rules and regulations and fees and cost that some what force the big businesses to be this way. I'm not really sure but I think it's started from the top down and we the drivers are just the bottum of the rung.. So it all comes down to find a company thats less screwed up then the others which usually comes down to the smaller family companies but not too small because then your wondering if they have money to pay you or the skills really to run it..

IT WORKED THE SAME WAY IN PRIVATE SECURITY GUARD CONTRACTING COMPANIES WHY BOTHER TO KEEP AN EMPLOYEE AROUND WHO MIGHT WANT BENEFITS AND A RAISE WHEN YOU CAN FIRE ONE GUY AND THERE WILL B E ABOUJT 50-100 PEOPLE WANTING TO GET THAT JOB. ALL MY LIFE, I HEARD HOW GREAT TRUCKING WAS AND I WAS A PRIVATE SECURITY GUARD FLUNKY FOR A WHILE AND I WORKED A LOT OF JOBS SO FINALLY I GOT MY CHANCE TO BE A TRUCK DRIVER AND IT WAS GREAT FOR A COUPLE OF YEARS BUT THEN THE CUTTHROATS STARTED DROPPING THE PRICES AND IT WAS JUST TOO MUCH WORK FOR TOO LITTLE RETURN SO I CHECKED OUT AND WENT BACK TO SCHOOL. I AM NOT SURE I WILL BE ABLE TO GET A JOB WHEN I GET OUT OF SCHOOL BUT I WON'T GO BACK TO TRUCKING! THESE STUPID AMERICAN EMPLOYERS DON'T GET IT THROUGH THEIR HEAD THAT THIS RACE TO THE BOTTOM IS WHAT HAS WRECKED OUR ECONOMY AND PEOPLE HAVE TO HAVE SOME PAY AND SOME GOOD, HUMANE TREATMENT. THEY SEND JOBS OVERSEAS WHERE THERE IS NO OSHA, NO EPA OR WAGES AND HOURS AND WORKERS HAVE NO RIGHTS WHATSOEVER. THEY WANT ALL OF US WORKING PEOPLE TO BE THE SAME AS THOSE IN THE THIRD WORLD SWEATSHOPS... I HAVE FRIENDS IN OTHER INDUSTRIES AND THEY TELL ME IT IS THE SAME TREATMENT THERE.
