Werner Enterprises operates on greed and runs a scam game to keep costs as low as possible. They use, abuse, and milk the system. The victims are the company drivers and trainees. The scam is run basically in three (3) easy steps: a) Recruit the naive trainee into their orientation program b) Send the trainee out to the field with a trainer for poverty wages c) Either get the trainee to quit before he/she gets a truck or quickly after they get a truck.

First of all they promise you the world and totally misrepresent what is lurking ahead for you (misery, believe me). The trainee gets $300/week from 0-138 hours, $350/week from 139-200 hours, and $375/week for hours between 201-300. To get 300 hours will take you at least ten (10) weeks to get because of the methods used by dispatch to limit your loads and hours. If you have the stomach and fortitude to last this long they will either give you a truck or say that you need more training for poverty pay.

They run a 24/7 training program from three (3) facilities to keep up with all the drivers that quit on a daily basis. They are not a growth company, they are abusers. Anyway, once you get to $375/week or obtain your own truck, they make life even more miserable to make you quit. Simple, they want to bring in a new trainee at $300/week, stick them with a trainer, and keep costs low. If you get your own truck that means that they have to pay you according to the pay scale (which the recruiter lies about anyway). This just equates to more money out of their pockets, but since they can stick a new trainee in with a trainer for low wages and get somewhat of a team driving scenario, it is cheaper for them.

I made it to 235 hours and was not allowed to go home for seven (7) weeks. It was impossible for me to contact my SDM from the road. I took a ULOA (unauthorized leave of absence) hoping they would take me back. Wrong. However I have a friend who has just about zero (0) hours after graduating from CDL A class, but they are trying to lure him in and will not take me back.

Think about it. They really do not want full time company drivers. They want low paid trainees going through the system. It is only logical from their standpoint, but is totally "shitty" for the trainees and drivers. The slogan of We Care, Werner Cares is a crock! Stay away, they are pieces of s**t and full time liars. Don't help them line their pockets with money by abusing you and your family.

What are you thinking? Do you actually think that you can take time off without first getting it approved, and then still have a job when you are ready to go back? Sorry, Charlie, that is not the way it works. Instead, you have to go through the proper channels. I have to side with Werner on this one. In order to maintain a fleet (of any size) there has to be some sort of policy. If you want to actually succeed in life, you actually have to show up for work on the given date, at the given time, otherwise it is considered to be job abandonment. In some cases, the company (it does not matter which of the many out there) can even charge you with abandonment of their property as well. You CANNOT take a leave of absence without first getting it approved through you dispatcher. Sorry, you have no room to complain, I would have done the exact same thing. While I'm at it, Werner wants drivers who will actually drive for them and get the miles on the trucks. If the wheel aren't turnin' Werner isn't earnin' (and is most likely taking a loss), therefore, you (as the driver) aren't earnin' either. That is the way they look at it.

This is just a response not a rebuttal.. This was the only option they gave or that I could figure out to get a response in here. Right it seems that you can't find a company that's not cut throat anymore.. Apparently from what the old timers say there used to be honest company's that cared more about good honorable workers that did there job well and with respect but not anymore. It's all about the buttom line, but the joke's on them because that's not how you succeed. It may "seem" to work for awhile but it ultimate end will be failure to be sure. But don't give all the credit to the big company but also to the government in there business with all the rules and regulations and fees and cost that some what force the big businesses to be this way. I'm not really sure but I think it's started from the top down and we the drivers are just the bottum of the rung.. So it all comes down to find a company thats less screwed up then the others which usually comes down to the smaller family companies but not too small because then your wondering if they have money to pay you or the skills really to run it..

IT WORKED THE SAME WAY IN PRIVATE SECURITY GUARD CONTRACTING COMPANIES WHY BOTHER TO KEEP AN EMPLOYEE AROUND WHO MIGHT WANT BENEFITS AND A RAISE WHEN YOU CAN FIRE ONE GUY AND THERE WILL B E ABOUJT 50-100 PEOPLE WANTING TO GET THAT JOB. ALL MY LIFE, I HEARD HOW GREAT TRUCKING WAS AND I WAS A PRIVATE SECURITY GUARD FLUNKY FOR A WHILE AND I WORKED A LOT OF JOBS SO FINALLY I GOT MY CHANCE TO BE A TRUCK DRIVER AND IT WAS GREAT FOR A COUPLE OF YEARS BUT THEN THE CUTTHROATS STARTED DROPPING THE PRICES AND IT WAS JUST TOO MUCH WORK FOR TOO LITTLE RETURN SO I CHECKED OUT AND WENT BACK TO SCHOOL. I AM NOT SURE I WILL BE ABLE TO GET A JOB WHEN I GET OUT OF SCHOOL BUT I WON'T GO BACK TO TRUCKING! THESE STUPID AMERICAN EMPLOYERS DON'T GET IT THROUGH THEIR HEAD THAT THIS RACE TO THE BOTTOM IS WHAT HAS WRECKED OUR ECONOMY AND PEOPLE HAVE TO HAVE SOME PAY AND SOME GOOD, HUMANE TREATMENT. THEY SEND JOBS OVERSEAS WHERE THERE IS NO OSHA, NO EPA OR WAGES AND HOURS AND WORKERS HAVE NO RIGHTS WHATSOEVER. THEY WANT ALL OF US WORKING PEOPLE TO BE THE SAME AS THOSE IN THE THIRD WORLD SWEATSHOPS... I HAVE FRIENDS IN OTHER INDUSTRIES AND THEY TELL ME IT IS THE SAME TREATMENT THERE.
