This is horrible. My heart goes out to your family. I cannot imagine the pain you are suffering.
So to make sure that I understand you correctly, you dropped your two pups off with Burt at his place of business with the intention of having them there from April 9 - April 13. They were in good health. When you picked them up, one had bites all over and one could not walk. They both smelled of urine, and when examined by your vet, the dog that was unable to walk was found to have trauma induced injury to his hips.
What kind of bites did your other dog have? Are we talking bug like bites or like the pup had been in combat? In regards to your sick pup, did the vet have any specific trauma that she suspected? Did she report the blatant abuse? Have you contacted Burt about this? Not that there is anything he can do at this point, your poor pup is crossing the rainbow bridge. Has he offered any explanation? Acknowledged the fact that your pups were in worse shape after having been with him? Offered to pay for your vet bills?
I don't know how it is in your state, but that's a felony in mine. The vet should have reported it. I would report it yourself as well. I would file charges, and I would own that man assuming he abused your pups. Please follow up with us, I am genuinely interested in what he has to say.
Again, I'm so sorry for your misfortune. No one should have to go through this. Be strong :(
