Here's the short version. I have a prepaid Mastercard through Western Union in order to do online shopping. Its rarely used but I make sure it stays active. I had not used the card since Sept 2007 and decided that I would use it to make some birthday purchases now in May 2008. I phoned Western Union customer service to verify that the card was indeed still active, and was told that it was. All I needed to do was load funds and begin shopping. So just to be sure I loaded $50 on May 24, 2008 because that would not be a huge sum to lose in my opinion. After the funds loaded I then ordered something and everything went through without a problem. On May 29, 2008 I loaded an additional $200 so that I could make the actual birthday purchase that i wanted. I called customer service to check the account balance and the funds were verified by the nicest representative, all is well. June 1, 2008, I go online to make the purchase and BAMM the card is declined TWICE. So I immediately call Western Union customer service where Im informed that the card account had automatically been closed due to non-usage. I was stunned. I was officially ripped off. I asked why my account had been closed and was told that I had called in and requested that it be closed on May 29th. I was told repeated by Jesse and Jesse impersonating a supervisor that the account closed when it reached a zero balance on May 30, 2008 the day after I deposited the $200. I was told that there were no transactions between the first load on May 24, and the $200 load. So my original purchase just disappeared. Now not only had a deposited $250 dollars but I had no transactions and had requested my account closed when I called and checked my balance. Keep in mind that I supposedly requested it closed only after I put $250 into it. I would have thought to spend that money or at least withdraw it before I closed my account. So instead of admitting the mistake Im told that the account will be back open but it will take at least 5 business days and also the money may not be on the account. They don't call it RIPOFF for nothing beware.
