Complaint Review: Westwood College of Technology Denver CO - Select State/Province

Attend School in 1998 to 2001 at Westwood College

I called the Number to Westwood College to change my life and further my education.   From the minute I connected with a Westwood Rep, I was told that I made the right decision to change my life and learn a trade that would make me successful.   

After telling the Rep some of the things I was interested in, we agreed that Electrical Engineering would be a perfect fit.  Me being 27 (in 1998) years old and being eager to succeed I was going to do what it takes to graduate.    Before I go on I have to let you know a little bit about my life so that you fully understand what happened. 

To make a long story short, I quit school in the ninth grade and received my GED in jail so I didn't have much of an education, but I did know how to read and some math.   So when I arrived at the school the rep said you have to take this test before you can start school like and entry exam.   

Well out of all the questions about 35 I only had 10 correct,  when the rep came back with my graded test he said it was not a high enough score...so he said take this test home here are the answers and memorize it and come back and take it again.   So I did and instead of memorizing it I actually stayed up all night trying to figure it out without the answers.

When I came back to take the test I barely passed but was so happy I finished.   Next I was sitting in the accounting office signing papers the whole time everyone telling me congratulations on getting accepted to Westwood College.    So there I was first day of college Electronic Engineering classes.

The first day seemed great, but not until mid semester I went to the dean and explained that I did not have the education or the skills to get passed this course successfully.   I had already taken all my pre-reqs and this was my first actual EE class.

The dean said I tell you what, "how about trying the computer networking program" I said that would be great,  but would I be charged for 2 degrees?  He said no everything should transfer over to your new degree program, all my prereqs.

So great there I was in Computer Networking,  and loving it,  doing well, getting good grades, until after I was applying for a helpdesk position and they asked if I had ever had a felony,  I said yes and that was the end of that.

I went to the dean and the counselor and asked them how I was going to be successful with a felony on my record with background checks and such?   They responded that it would not affect me once I had a degree, that people would realize that you have changed your life and have attended college.

So ok, I said I would get the degree and continue, after I reached the associate level of the program I had to stop college and get a job to support my family of 4 at the time.  So the school recommend that I graduate with an associate degree and could come back and finish the bachelor degree later.   

So graduated with a Associate of Science degree in Computer Networking,  my degree was only to cost me $26,000 for the Computer Network bachelor degree.   They charged me for both degrees Electrical Engineering degree and the Computer Networking degree equaling $42,000, 

So I have been trying to find a good job with this degree and my felony,  with no luck.   I graduated in 2001 and now its 2013 and I have been sent to collections for these loans and now owe $80,000.. LOL can you believe it $80,000 dollars

There is no way I can pay that loan back and will die with it hanging over my head.
