I contacted customer service because the lid on my Cabrio washing machine broke for the 2nd time! The machine was purchased in May 2011. It is out of warranty but has a manufacture defect! It only takes a quick online search to see this exact break has happened to SEVERAL customers. It is NOT wear and tear. My sister has the same unit and it happened to her as well. 
 
1st time it broke, I was sent a new lid and had to pay $250  for the repair service.  This time I called and was told that because of the AGE of the unit and since this is the 2nd time it happened - they can only offer me a new washing machine at a "Deeply Discounted" price. 
 
Outrageous on many fronts:
 
1) The deeply discounted prices they offered were MORE EXPENSIVE than both HOME DEPOT and BEST BUY for the SAME EXACT UNITS! So clearly their customer service is in the business of SALES and not customer service.
 
2) At minimum because this is a defect in the lid - the resolutions they should offer is to repair the lid at NO cost to me OR to either RECALL the defective machine OR to refund the amount of the machine! It is ridiculous for their customer service to tell me a 5 year old washing machine that is LIGHTLY used at best is TOO OLD to repair - are your units not meant to last!?  ADDITONALLY, I was told they had NOT received similar complaints about the LID! This is clearly a BLANTANT LIE!
 
The customer service rep told me if they shipped out a new lid for free, since this would be the 2nd time,  it would seem as if they are giving away lids so they can't do it! WELL IT WOULD BE FOR GOOD REASON - YOUR LIDS ARE DEFECTIVE! Send the right lid and fix it or send a LID for your NEWER model that won't BREAK OVER AND OVER AGAIN!
 
I honestly am so puzzled by the "resolution" offered to me by your customer service. How can I consider buying a new whirlpool for 899-1000 only for it to last less than 5 years (and that is with 2 lid breaks and a DRUM replacement because that had broken too in less than 3 years of using the machine) ? No thanks - If I buy a new unit, it will be from a different manufacturer. SHAME ON YOU WHIRLPOOL - There are YOUTUBE VIDEOS dedicated to teaching people how to fix your broken lids! You clearly KNOW about this defective lid but you are unwilling to do the right thing. I feel completely cheated by this product and level of service and would like to find a fairer resolution!
