FYI

Are you thinking of buying an engine from Wholesale engines/Prime Performance on eBay or his website (http://www.wholesale-engines.com/aboutus.html)?

Do yourself a favor and recheck everything in the motor!!! i.e. torque specs, matching rods and caps (#s) and make sure there in there proper cylinders. Don't forget the camshaft sprocket retaining bolt. He doesn't install one before shipping?

I bought a motor from Eric Mead and it was a mess (Literally ran for 15 sec's before catastrophic failure). I have 7 different emails from his customers that had similar problems with there motors and they said that they all left feed back before installing the engine. Somehow he blocked me from leaving feedback?

Thank God for Papal, I did get a refund but it very time consuming getting another properly built motor. Not to mention the down time of my truck. I can't stop this guy from selling this junk on eBay or his website, but I can inform customers that have bought engines from him or about to and advise them what to look for or better yet stay clear of this scammer!!!

Note: Eric Mead's (Wholesale engines is not a machine shop, he builds these motors in his garage in Goose Creek, SC, Yet he states that they come out of Dallas TX??? Eric claims to sell 2800 motors a month. Well after checking his company profile in South Carolina, It shows that his annual sales are $60,000 a yr and has two employees. There's no way he's putting out 2800 motors a month at 60,000 a yr in sales and two employees.

Let's do the math, hypothetically let's say he sells each motor for 500.00 each. (I paid 800.00 for mine, but let's just low ball the figures) $500 x 2800 motors a month = 1,400,000 now x that by 12 months= 16,800,000. Now that is a far cry from his reported 60,000 a year in sales that's reported to South Carolina.

You can find all his information on (((Redacted))) Believe you me he's not doing this out of his garage with two employees. If you run across this guy, do yourself a favor and stay away. You'll get a thrown together motor with mismatched parts that won't last and you'll send more money to get a properly built motor after his blows up. And of course he'll claim that it had nothing to do with his craftsman ship. (Yeah Right) There's a right way and a wrong way to build a motor. Trust me buy a motor from someone with a reputable company and you'll be much happier!! Hope this helps someone out there, Good luck.

I bought a Ford 302 bored .040 over to a 306 from Wholesale Engine. While on the phone making the purchase Eric told me that the camshaft sprocket retaining bolt was not included. Also it is posted on his site.

While installing the engine I had a few questions because this was my first engine swap. Although this was my first full engine swap I have worked on my own cars and friends cars for  years. If there was something that came up during the install I called Eric and he was more then helpfull answering all my questions even if it was for parts I did not buy from him.

Anytime you are doing engine work like a motor swap you should not only re-check torque settings from a mail order part but re-check your own torque settings. You just invested in something that large you want to make sure everything is right.

As for a missing camshaft bolt, if you install an engine and did not notice there is no camshaft sprocket retaining bolt you should probably consult a perfessional before attempting to perform this type of work.

Thanks Eric! The motor is running great. Pushed over 402hp on the dyno! George Bowser NorthEast, Maryland

I have to come on here to clear up some of Eric Mead's untruthfulness. First of all you're right, Papal did overturn my dispute. In my favor on 6-2-2008!! So why you lie to future customers that may read this is beyond me. Second Your right again, You do have a (note) on eBay that say's (Note: All short blocks are not complete and will need lifters, headers, intake system or carburetor, heads, timing chain bolt and cover, frontal accessories, oil pump, pick up tube, and oil pan). BUT in BOLD red, that is a down right lie, it is in red though (basically fine print) mixed up in the middle of the page. It also states that you need an oil pump too. I got one?? I guess that's a typo?? I have stated all along that your statement was on there and also that you should NOT put it in fine print. Heck paypal even read it (I had to tell them where to look) Also, you stated to Paypal in your letter that it has happened before in the past but the installer took responsibility. I would have if there was some kind of warning, heck I still don't know why you would take the time to put it on and not take the extra 60 sec's to put the retaining bolt in and make it 100% RIGHT?? I mean don't even put it on, leave it in its box. What's so hard about that?? As far as your bold lettering, your (PAYMENT) is in bold, your (CONTACT US) is in bold, your (ABOUT US) is in bold, But for the one thing that can blow a motor in 15 sec NOITHING IN BOLD!!!!!! Why you would install a timing chain and not put the bolt in without a warning is pure laziness. O that's right, you told me I had to retorque the cam thrust plate because the bolts my have come loose in shipping?? Sorry, that is just another lie. You claim that your company is the largest engine builder in the country. That may be so?? But, I can't verify that on the internet, because I can't find a wholesale engines or prime performance anywhere on the net in Dallas TX?? What baffles me though is that when I sent back the motor to Goose Creek you didn't even have a forklift to take the motor off the truck?? Even UPS told me that the drop address was at your house. Why would you have me send the motor to your house?? (That's why you had to drive to the UPS warehouse to pick it up). Seems a bit strange that the largest builder in the nation doesn't have a forklift? Heck at my shop with only 3 employees I have a forklift. That's right my shop, you call me and I Quote (Not for the unexperienced 'DO IT YOURSELFER') and let me correct you, it's spelled inexperienced not unexperienced. I have been chopping, cutting, and rebuilding cars for over 20yrs. so your commit about being inexperienced makes me laugh. You should be ashamed of yourself to even reply and lie like this. So if you want to sue me I will be bringing the emails, the letters you wrote to paypal (stating it happened before), a copy of your fine print warning (in red) on your site and letters from engine builders stating that you don't have to retorque the camshaft thrust plate with me to court. O and also my bank statement where Paypal refunded ME!!!! God Bless, you defiantly need some help.

We are one of the largest engine builders in the United States and have two locations, Dallas TX and Goose Creek SC. This customer ordered an engine from our Ebay listing and over looked the BOLD RED PRINT. He tried to install an engine and did not notice he left out a bolt that is CLEARLY stated in the listing as NOT INCLUDED. He got upset and filed a dispute with PAYPAL which was overturned as a result of him damaging the motor from lack of knowhow and the fact that the oversight was all on his part not ours. We would be glad to provide anyone with pictures of what this customer did to this motor. We also have a copy of his statement admitting he left parts out. We supply dealerships and individuals with motors nationwide, we sponsor 6 race cars from round track to drag strips all running our bottom ends and no one has had a problem in the 50 years we have been in business, because we they all have someone qualified install the motors. Steve did not. As for the SLAM on our company, Steve never looked at his receipt or BOL, he ASSUMED that the motor came from GOOSE CREEK SC, however it came from our Dallas location. Furthermore the information Steve pulled up on ME was my personal yearly salary which is really no ones business. I don't own the company, I wish I did. Our Goose Creek location employees two people, myself (I handle sales calls, web sites, Ebay listings and administration) RACE engine builder that only builds CRATE motors and turn key special orders. All off our general production motors come from our Dallas location that currently employs 36 people 28 of which are ASE certified and the remainder are machinists with several years of experience. All motors are checked and quality controlled, all motors are SIM tested and inspected prior to shipping and all torque specs are on the money before the motor hits our shipping dock. All engines are built from start to finish by ONE builder, no assembly lines. We DO NOT install engines into customers cars so we have no control over someone who lacks knowledge attempting an install and overlooking bolts that are clearly not there. Steve is in the process of being sued for slander, malicious emails, harassment, damages and fraud. This was yet another lie posted by this customer not willing to take responsibility for his own mistake. I have in writing from Steve admission of incorrect installation and damaged cause by him, but he thinks we should pay for it because "WE CAN AFFORD IT" as he says. We can provide several references that are totally satisfied with our products, or you can see for yourself at a drag strip near you running the same $800 motor this customer didn't know how to install.
