In todays over hyped world of education there is a business even less ethical than the University Athletic Director. It is the local book publishers. These large corporations feed without conscience upon the middle class of society. As parents and students scramble to manipulate their way through the labyrinth of obstacles to join the race for a successful college education....bam! you need books. Not just any books, the right books and they ain't cheap. Why? Why are books so expensive....there is no other reason than they can.
In the current world of technology and tablets why on heavens earth are we dealing with books. I tried to get digital versions of my daughters books this year for her University education. Not gonna happen, the big Universities are locked in with publishers and professors all making a buck.
I thought I would rent books instead of emptying the bank account this year. Ouch...the spanish book I rented didn't come with the CD that the teacher required. I was told no problem contact the Wiley publishing, and purchase it alone. But no...that would be too easy. When I discussed my dilemma with Technical Support he said it was not available without the purchase of the book. So I persisted, please is it available at a cost for a download or a CD. His response was a simple "No".
So I contend.....Dear Wiley Publishing how long will you and the multitude of other publishers scam this generation for millions and billions of dollars. Our Education system is broken in oh....so many ways and publishers are just another example.
