I'm going through the financial papers of my mom, who recently moved to a long-term care facility. In 2014, she sent in $69.99 because apparently she believed that the Award Notification Commission directed by William S. Barstow was sending her a legitimate notification of a prize. The $69.99 was a "required" remittal fee. My mom, who was 84 at the time and on Social Security, did not have that kind of money to waste on nothing, and that's what happened. I was so sad when I found this paperwork. Scams such as these are awful, and older people are so vulnerable.
