We purchased a Premium account with Wix.com. Wix offers a do-it yourself website design and free hosting on their Wix.com site. You can upgrade and have your website redirected to your own domain and Wix promises to remove their advertising from your site. We upgraded for our organization and were awaiting the release of the much-anticipated PayPal shopping cart. For the record, Wix NEVER removed their tacky favicon.

A PayPal feature was already on the site, but only allowed customers to purchase and check one item at a time, which was tedious, but Wix made numerous assurances that the PayPal shopping cart would be released within "two weeks". So we purchased the premium account and waited...and waited....and waited. We wrote to Wix approximately 6 times, inquiring as to the status of the upgrades and Wix made repeated assurances that the shopping cart release would be "soon".

Today, we noticed that the PayPal shopping cart was available. We designed our shopping cart page BUT when we tried to preview the page we were told we would need to upgrade to a "NEW E-Commerce account"...an additional cost of roughly $200.00.

The E-Commerce premium account never existed prior to the release of the PayPal shopping cart. And Wix NEVER required any "upgrade" to access any features of their website tools. Wix frequently releases upgrades; this is the FIRST time they have attempted to make premium users pay for a long awaited, much promised, and necessary upgrade.

This is clearly a case of bait and switch, and premium users are left without the necessary upgrades to function their websites. If they refuse to upgrade, they can't use the feature...meaning their website is seriously limited as a sales tool.

As it stands, our organization has spent roughly 125 hours on design of our Wix site (125 hrs x $15/per hour), paid $225 to Wix, and the website cannot be transferred from Wix. We are out roughly $2,000 and due to this breach of contract we will have nothing to show for it if we cannot have the required and promised shopping cart.

Our organization must have the shopping cart for fund-raising and Wix was fully aware of this and continued to promise the feature to all premium users and NEVER disclosed that this fundamental feature would cost all premium users an additional $200.

Wix is defrauding customers. This is your typical bait and switch. Don't use them...their customer service is a JOKE.

There are several premium accounts

I know your upset but there are several premium accounts you could purchase ranging from no ads to e-commerce. It is standard that e-commerce is more money and sometimes requires percentages of the total transactions processed by the shopping cart. I believe you were confused by the many packages and fine print, but when buying a site you need to read up and do research. Wix is a great looking flash based web design option, and if you did spend $2,000 you are still ahead of the game because most e-commerce sites range from $2500-upwards of $10k. The reason you can't switch your web site is because it is a web based design system, and it can't recognize html coding, your domain would be transferrable but not the site it's self. I would reccommend paying the difference because otherwise you'll be looking at many more thousand dollars to get the site up, plus potentially months of down time.
