I got a call and the caller ID said "Kanwar" but did not provide a number. When I answered it a woman who claimed to be with the Federal Depertment of Grants and spoke with an Indian accent asked for me because I was chosen to recieve a $7,000.00 grant from the Federal Government. She then read off my information to me over the phone and asked me to verify that it was correct, after which she asked me if a had any form of credit card that I would like to use to recieve the money. Being suspicious I asked her if she could just sent me a check since she already knew my address and she said "no" but she told me that I could go down to the Western Credit Store and recieve the money in cash. She then gave me a grant confirmation number and told me to call their financial accountant and gave me his phone number: 202-580-8209 and told me to call right away so that he could tell me how to get my money in cash.

I got off the phone with her and made the call. He asked me to tell him my name and give my grant confirmation number so he could verify that it was me after which he put me on hold so that he could "pull up my file". Kind of suspicious right? Then he told me that in order to recieve me money in cash, I would first have to pay a security deposit of $290 so that the Federal Reserve could varify that I really am who I say I am. He informed me that I would recieve the money back when I get my grant money. and that i could pick up the grant money at my nearesst Western Union Store located at 5545 S. Boulder Dr. Mesa, Az. I told him that I don't have that kind of cash on me and he said that he could halt my file for 2 weeks while I gathered the funds. I told him I would think about it because I didn't trust that I would get the money back and he said that i could varify their validity on www.mygovernmentgrants.com.

I looked up the site and it exists, but there is no such place as Western Union Store on 5545 S. Boulder Dr. Mesa Az. Or any other place near me for that matter. THIS IS A SCAM!!! DO NOT TRUST THEM AND DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR CREDIT CARD NUMBER!! You can varify this scam report on http://scamfraudalert.org/2013/06/29/us-government-grants-mygovernmentgrants-com/.

This afternoon I received a phone call which my caller ID was unable to identify except for a series of numbers bearing no

resemblance to a phone number. The caller represented himself as a federal worker dispersing "Federal Demographic Grants"

I evidently qualified for $7000 in grant money based on a few arbitrary facts (I pay my taxes, I haven't committed a felony in

the past six months, etc...) I politely refused to give him a debit card number or any vital personal information. He offered to

arrange for the $7000 grant to be sent via Western Union. In order to receive this I had to purchase a "security verification

voucher"(cost:$255) from Walgreens or Rite Aid. To cast an illusion of legitimacy, the first caller gave me a grant approval ID

number. I was to immediately contact "Brian Taylor" with this ID number to make the arrangements to receive this money.

The phone number given to me to call was 206-317-1691. Incidentally, everyone with whom I spoke clearly had accents

(Indian, I think) -- I was told I could verify the legitimacy of this program by checking a website mygovernmentgrants.com.

Aside from the fact that the site had a ".com" suffix instead of ".gov", the site itself was a bit tacky - nothing I would

associate with an official government site. After ending the call, it took about 30 seconds to find a Ripoff Report anecdote

which almost precisely resembled my experience just now. Thank you who posted your experiences with this scam.
