I started making early payments on a town. When the townhome was almost paid off, I recall being notified and forced to pay extra insurance for my mortgage with Caliber Home Loans. It was claimed that the walls-out insurance covered by the HOA at keys gate was not adequate.
I believe what happened was I was required to pay Universal Property Insurance for walls-out insurance, while also paying the normal HOA (which already pays walls-out insurance) - I almost lost the house after paying most of it off. I kept calling for a solution how to get this double payment of insurance resolved - I called Caliber Home Loans, I called keysgate miamimanagement.com, I barely found out about Universal Property & Casualty insurance and all of them were pointing the finger at the other company - all while continuing to over-charge me.
I never solved this problem, but thankfully I paid off my townhome and that is the only reason why I could get the over-charging, double-insurance billing to stop. This was years ago.
If anyone is reading this, I thankfully received a letter from Jimmy Patrons just recently, chief financial officer of the state of Florida, with a claim # and to go to FLTreasureHunt.gov - so thankfully it looks like I will get my money back. I feel sorry for anyone that could afford their mortgage but was forced into losing their home because the insurance was doubled or trippled overnight.
