My 2021 Jeep Wrangler was stolen on April 3rd, 2023. I filed a police report and contacted my insurance company, which agreed to pay me the cash value price of $5,570,000, minus the deductible of $1,000, totaling $54,700. This was the price at which I purchased the car in May 2022. However, I was informed that I have to pay an additional $5,770. This amount represents the remaining balance of the lease term. My situation is similar to the one reported by Mr. Viktor Dokaj on CTV News on May 15. Despite my car being missing for over a month and a half, the financing company continues to charge me the monthly leasing fee. I kindly request your assistance in this matter.

How hard is it to READ the contract and see that it says "LEASE"??? Better yet, it's a FLEASE!!! You didn't buy anything. You are paying thru the nose for a car which isn't yours. You claim to not understand the contract. WHY DID YOU AGREE TO TERMS YOU DIDN'T UNDERSTAND?????

If the contract was so opaque and hard to understand, why did you sign it?  The time to review the contract is when you are at the car dealership signing papers, not years after the fact.  And you can find sample contracts and other material about leases all over the Internet, you just need to do a modicum of research instead of signing up for something you don't understand just because the monthly fee is slightly less.

It's not a loan that you can just repay and be done with it.  It's a leasing contract.  Leases don't usually allow early termination, which would have been obvious if you did even a modicum of research.  The fact that the car was stolen is of absolutely no consequence with respect to your obligations under the contract.  It's literally the same as if you wanted to buy out the contract early.  This is very standard for all vehicle leases.
