I became a member of 24 Hour Fitness in 1996.

When I signed up I paid for the ability to use any 24 Hour facility in the USA Regardless of where it is or how big it is. Not only did I pay a higher monthly dues, I also paid a higher initiation fee for the all club access ability. During these 10 years of membership I had never cancelled (when I stopped working out) because I saw the value of haveing a monthly dues of 1996 rates and knowing that the cost of liveing would be going up and I would be returning to the gym someday.

The 24 Hour fitness facility in San Ramon California that I used to go to has since turned into a "super sport" facility and I'm not allowed to enter without "PAYING UP". The last time I was in San Ramon I got into an argument with the management, over their wanting me to pay the extra cash to work out there. I have tried to explain to them that when I bought my membership in 1996 my contract allowed access to all gyms including those to be opened in the future. A if I choose to keep my membership open and paid for, my dues will never go up. If 24 Hour Fitness decides to expand the San Ramon facility to a "super duper store" thats on them not me, because I'm locked in.

Bottom line is you can expain it till your blue in the face, they don't care. The management are typical corporate bubbleheaded drones. I feel that since they didn't live up to their end, they should refund me all the money I paid them over the last 10 years.

But really, 24 hour is a mega corporation that does not need to be so greedy. Leave that to those Kenneth Lays of ENRON. You see where that got him in the end.

24 Hour Fitness should "Just Do The Right Thing" and quit fussing around with thier prior to "super store" members. Especially those members that have been loyal and paid there dues and kept their membership up all those years.
