I contracted with National Moving Network who assigned my move to A1 USA Movers for a pickup on the 24th or 25th of September. With a delivery date of 5-7 days following. They arrived four days late with minimal phone calls to inform me of the delays.

I have a Word document with all of the phone calls made and received since Sept 25th. There were times when we were put on hold, and never talked to, we asked to speak with Supervisors and the owner of the company and were told that we could not talk to them or that they were on vacation.

When we called last and talked to Armando to explain the situation (myself and my supervisor) he said that we shouldn't be as frantic as we are. We expressed that the number of phone calls we had placed were un-called for, and the increase in price was outrageous. Armando said that he would check on something and call us back in 30 minutes to an hour. Two and a half hours later we still have not heard from him or A1 USA Movers.

I was told the delivery would be Oct 5 possibly Oct 6, and now I am being told it will not be until Oct 8. They also informed me that I am 2160 lbs over the original 3100 lbs specified. Which may be possible, but I am single male with minimal furniture, and some garage tools. Which adds $3094.00 to the original $1972.00. NICE.

9/25/02 we called 6 times, they called first thing in the morning to inform me of a driver change because the original driver was going to take too long.

9/26/02 we called 6 times, they called me back twice.

9/27/02 we called 5+ times, The might have returned one call.

Multiple times since I arrived at my destination, only to have the delivery date changed on me twice and $3094.00 added to my total.

Ray, Hold the line and don't pay a dime extra until after you have read this!

When the truck shows up do not allow them to open the doors, instead tell them you want a certified weigh ticket. Tell them that you are going to follow them down to the Flying J truckstop(I-15 Cheyenne Exit Phone: (702) 649-2001 call ahead to make sure the scales are up if not ask where some are) to get one, you will pay for it. If they refuse inform them that you as a customer have the right under the household movers laws put in place by the DOT to have a "heavy weight and a light weight".

Here is what you will do:

Watch and see that they put their truck on the scale, then go inside the truckstop to the TRUCK fuel desk and tell them that you want the ticket for that company. It should cost you about 8.00. NOW take them home and let them unload your things. When they unload it follow them back to the truckstop watch them put the truck on the scale and get the ticket again. It will be a reweigh and should only cost you 2.00 or so. Give the person helping you your first ticket so they can see it is a reweigh. NOW subtract the light weight from the heavy weight and that is how many pounds you should be charged for. Any more is fraud.

If they refuse inform them that you know your rights and it would be nothing for you to call out a US Marshall to escort the truck.

Be polite, but be firm, let them know that you know the score and are willing to take it to the limit to avoid being a victim of fraud.
