Back in May 2000 I began having troubles with my truck. I own a Ford Ranger Splash 4.0 V6 and what was happening was the truck would shutter and shake when cruising down the highway at about 45mph or so. I thought that the only possible explanation was that it was the Transmission since there was this shaking and it seemed to generally happen around the same speed.

I decided to take the truck over to the AAMCO transmission shop at the following address:

AAMCO Transmissions

9787A Glades Road

Boca Raton, FL 33434

I spoke with a guy by the name of Frank and I explained the symptoms to him and he wanted to take it for a test drive (with me in the truck) to see if it felt like a transmission problem. During the test drive he said that it did feel like it was the transmission however, he would need to inspect it internally in order to be sure.

Being in a desperate mode to have my truck fixed I agreed to pay the $475.00 to inspect the transmission for any failures. I took a rental vehicle and heard back about 3 to 4 days later with the end result being a faulty transmission. I was told that the interior of the transmission had cracked and that it would cost roughly $3000.00 to repair (I now know that this is even more than it costs to put most brand new transmissions in. and mine was rebuilt). Again, being as desperate as I was and knowing that even if I did take it elsewhere I would still need to pay the $475.00, I decided to get it fixed.

When I got the truck back they told me to keep the receipt of (service description) in the truck glove department so that if there are any additional repairs that ever need to be done I could take it to an AAMCO dealer and they would fix it free of charge. I then drove away and soon noticed that the problem was still there. I took the truck back and said that the problem was still happening and they kept it for about a day to look at it. When I went to pick it up they told me that the truck needed additional repair for runability problems that were not transmission related. Before I took off from the shop I checked my glove department to make sure that receipt was still in there. To my surprise it was missing! I went back in the shop and demanded to know where it went, they acted dumb like they didn't know and I told the manager I'm not leaving until I get that he then went upstairs and made a copy of the photocopy that he had or said he had made before.

The point is, these guys that work at this AAMCO are cons and they will scam you. My advice is to avoid this shop at all costs. I'm basically telling this because I heard from someone I know that some other people have been ripped off from this place as well. Don't let it happen to you.

i filed a report here, too. this is a great site. same amoco, tried taking me for $800.00 just to remove my transmission. it ended up being a loose bolt that i found with no transmission training...these fools put my car on a rack, and instantly, i had a bad transmission.

Your invoice shows that you were charged for two lock up solenoids I think your transmission only has one. Also the 3-4 solenoid and Overdrive solenoid are the same.
