Abstract Industries placed an ad to which I replied for a Data Entry project. They contact you via email asking you to fill out an extremely detailed employment application and ask you to include your social security number and a copy of the card, as well as your drivers license number and copy. They tell you its for a criminal background check in the ad but when I asked them directly they say its to "prove to the IRS that we paying a legal citizen".
I completed the application process and they scheduled me for a phone interview. I called to get more detailed information about the project (as they do not provide any in the listing) and it sounds like a one man company. He told me the project is a flat fee and I would be creating email addresses through Google, and tracking them on Google Docs. The project requires me to complete 848 email addresses for their "client" and will pay $3300.
I tried to get more info about the company immediately after hearing the ridiculous project fee. He claims they've been around since the 1970's (however the internet says 2004) and that they have a clean record/no reports on the BBB or on here.
Be aware and avoid this "company" at all costs. Its just another work at home scam. Do not send them any information no matter their claim of running a background check on you.

There is no Jack Cola!

Jack Cola is one of many aliases for John Gkahopoylos. His mother/step mother is Joann Colaiacovo. They are both "gypsys" and remain constant fugitives of the law. John has an extensive criminal record and has done jail time for these crimes. They both continue to victimize people through common scams. Look up his name in Google. It's not likely he had a stroke. This is a common excuse they have used for years when the heat is on... some form of health issue to get you to feel sorry for them. It would be best if he did have a stroke so maybe he can stop this nonsense. If you gave him your identification information, you more than likely are, or will become a victim of identy theft. Contact the authorities and check your credit report. They have no known address other than PO Boxes. Even his driver's license is registered to a PO Box. You have been a victim but you are not alone. There are a lot of people constantly looking for these two, which is why they are always on the run. Abstract Industries is nothing more than a website. No staff. No building. No business. It's all BS! There is no legal department. His may have above average knowledge of the law due to the fact that he has spent much of his time either in court or behind bars.

Sorry John... the truth be told. And rather than post another BS rebutal in an attempt to make you look like a legitimate business, why not just post your physical business address along with a business phone where you can be contacted, served, and picked-up on one of the outstanding warrants you have? If you want to sue me, I challenge you to do so. Knowing when and where you'll be in court, we can have you arrested on the steps... once again.

False information on Pamela Pelletier

When asked where I heard about the position, I DID in fact respond by telling the "agent" that I found the listing on Virtual Vocations. He then went on a long winded rant saying Virtual Vocations did not have the right to post this listing, and that he was going to file a cease and desist order against them, and sue them, etc, etc, etc. (they're obviously extremely sue happy as they've threatened me many times)

No, I did not cancel claiming I found a negative report on this website. I emailed the "agent" and canceled because I did research on Abstract Industries and NONE of the public information that I found matched what I was told over the phone by the "agent". (I was told the company had been in business since the 1970's, however public information says 2004 and that they had a good standing on the BBB, however the BBB has NEVER heard of them, etc.) I canceled because the false information that was given to me, and the ridiculous "payment amount" for creating a bunch of email addresses seemed fishy to me and I did not want to get caught up in a scam.

The legal department from Abstract Industries has posted incorrect information on me. Their "research" (the link they placed in their rebuttal) turned up information that has nothing to do with me. I am not from Sunrise, FL nor am I associated with any dog grooming business OR the Reputation Store. I am a married woman with children who has worked from home for over 4 years now as a Virtual Assistant. I AM a citizen of the United States of America, born here and lived here all my life, I am not from Peru, nor have I ever been there.

I do not know or work for a Ryan or Jessica. I work on my own, at home, and do not contract work out - so this person whom Abstract Industries is trying to push off as me, is a completely different person using the same name as me (all of which I can, and will prove by legal documents if necessary).

I do not search for jobs on CraigsList because of all the scams listed on there. I found this job listing via my subscription to Virtual Vocations (a site that gathers virtual positions from all over the net, and lists them to subscribers).

I am NOT an affiliate of anyone, including this "Reputation.com" that Abstract is trying to tie me to, I am not an affiliate of anyone, nor do I work with anyone.

This is all FALSE information that this company is obviously using to move the attention off of them onto an honest person trying to prevent others from getting scammed.

They have no right or grounds to file suit against me. I was threatened over the phone not to file any such report, and I'm being threatened again. I did nothing wrong. I filed this report because I honestly believe this company to be a scam.

And yes, it seems a bit fishy that a J.Lopez filed this report against me AND also filed the report that Abstract is trying to link me to.... another proof of a fraudulent company and action.

**Thank you Ariana for pointing out more holes in their story. The last thing I need is a dirty company like this bringing my name and reputation down.

The company's rebuttal to this claim seems to have a few holes in it.

1. The company cited another Rip Off Report that is also pressing charges against Pamela.  Problem is, the report they linked to was written BY THE SAME PERSON that made this company's rebuttal.  J. Lopez must be a busy lady.

2. The company's website (www.abstractindustriesllc.com) is almost completely under construction.  More than 80% of the links all go to "Coming Soon."  I can't see any legitimate information on the site that indicates that actual business is done here (no client list, no employee list, no concrete services provided, etc.).  This website claims the company has been around since 2004.

3. This website (http://econnect.entrepreneur.com/jackcola) from Entrepreneur Magazine profiles Jack Cola, the CEO of this company.  This article claims that the company was founded in 1967, but has only been doing business since 2004.

4. Jack Cola's LinkedIn page (http://www.linkedin.com/in/jackcola) shows that he has a ton of expertise in criminal law and private investigation.  Given the enormous amount of personal information they demand upfront before you can even interview for a position, I'm wary of giving that info to someone who is so well versed in this type of law.

5. This company is not accredited with the BBB. http://www.dc.bbb.org/report.html?national=y&compid=201750076
The BBB says this company's file was opened on July 16, 2010.  Awfully recent for a company that's supposedly been around for 40 years.

Overall, I'm skeptical of a company who makes claims of being founded for almost 40 years but on its own website says that they've only been in existence since 2004.  I sent a request for an application for a data entry position at this company yesterday and have yet to hear back, although I know I will not provide the detailed personal information (copies of social security card and drivers license, etc.) they are requesting without a firm offer of employment as is typical of most hiring procedures.

I haven't made up my mind about this company yet, but at this point I'm wary.  I will update again if I learn anything else that tips the scale in one direction or another.

This rebuttal is being filed by the Legal Department at Abstract industries, LLC in response to a posting filed against this company on The Rip-Off Report.com.

We were contacted by email by a person named Pamela Pelletier from Center Hill, Florida.  She requested an online application for our Data Entry position listed on Craigslist.org.  She completed this application and provided her personal information and credentials to this company for the purpose of a criminal background check, so that she may be considered for employment.  Her information was received by our third party vendor which is responsible for processing all applications received by Abstract Industries, LLC.  This is a licensed and bonded third party vendor that abides by our privacy policy located on our website.  Before the application could be approved for employment, this person contacted our offices and inquired regarding the position offered on Craigslist.org.  The agent that she had spoken with questioned her as to how she heard of us in Center Hill, Florida when we advertised in the Hudson Valley of New York.  She did not respond to this question.

This person was approved for a phone interview since she did not reside in a state which she could appear at our offices in person.  WE ARE NOT A HOME BASED BUSINESS!  Before the phone interview could take place, she sent Abstract Industries, LLC's Employment Department another email claiming she needed to cancel the interview due to finding a negative listing on The Rip-Off Report.com.

We immediately investigated this claim and found the author of this negative report to be Pamela Pelletier.

Abstract Industries, LLC has since received an email from The Reputation Store.com to help us improve our online presence.  While investigating The Reputation Store.com on The Rip-Off Report.com we found a search listing for The Reputation Store.

This link below is provided for your amusement and caution: (In this report, you will find a similar situation that transacted against a business owner and what this business owner found out regarding Pamela Pelletier).

http://www.ripoffreport.com/grant-writing-research/the-reputation-store/the-reputation-store-idea-tech-f5d6d.htm

Pamela Pelletier of Center Hill and Sunrise, Florida is some sort of affiliate with The Reputation Store.com and contacts businesses (mainly businesses utilizing Craigslist.org), gathers information and then uses that information to file negative comments on the internet and The Rip-Off Report.com for the sole purpose of having her affiliate contact these companies with a charge for removing the listings.

WE DO NOT WANT THESE NEGATIVE LISTINGS REMOVED!  We will respond to any claims against Abstract Industries, LLC.  In regards to Pamela Pelletier's claim, we will respond by filing a civil suit in a Florida court against Pamela Pelletier.

Abstract Industries, LLC does not contact individuals for their personal information.  If you apply to Abstract Industries, LLC you MUST fill out an application.  This application is to verify your references and employment history and to conduct a criminal background check.  A criminal background check is performed on all employees and sub-contractors.  Employees and sub-contractors work everyday with our clients personal and most intimate details and company information.  Our clients expect us to screen all individuals who are privy to this information.

We allow certain employees and sub-contractors to work from home, this does not mean we are a AT-Home Business.  The laws of The Great State of New York prohibit companies from charging applicants fees to conduct a background check or employment history.  Individuals who work from home are required to have a computer, webcam (to connect to our online training courses--also provided for free), a printer, scanner, and access to high speed internet service.  There is no software needed, as individuals connect to a virus free secure network connection to complete work.  What we desire to pay our employees is what we believe to be a fair wage for the correctly completed work.  (This is honestly the first time in this companies history that we have been chastised for remunerating an employee/sub-contractor to much money). If people do not feel comfortable with submitting their information online, they have two (2) options: Don't submit your information or contact one of our local offices.  Any of our offices located throughout the United States will be more than willing to forward your application to the branch that is hiring.

Abstract Industries, LLC was founded in 1972 by Michael Spadicini in Santa Clara, California.  Since then the corporation has changed ownership and has grown to 43 locations throughout North America and Canada.  This company maintains a zero (0) complaint history with the BBB (Better Business Bureau) and the Department of Labor and Industry since 1972.  There are many companies in the United States with similar names, please research the correct company name and listing before engaging in business.  We can not control people who incorporate with similar names.

Beware of Pamela Pelletier and The Reputation Store.com.  This companies formal belief is that they are all some what affiliated.

Please be advised that Abstract Industries, LLC infinitively partners with Google.com, Ask.com, Craigslist.org, aol.com, Yahoo.com, angieslist.com, Bing.com and many other online sites to aide in the prosecution of defamatory statements made against Abstract Industries, LLC.  WE PROSECUTE IN ALL CASES!

Company threatened to sue

#6Author of original report

I just received a nasty message from this company. They said that if I file a report with the BBB or with Rip Off Report without merit they will take me to court and sue me.

I don't file false reports. The VERY little information he did give was false (he claimed to have good standing on the BBB, yet he/his company is not even listed, he claimed my SS# was for a background check in the job listing then said it was to verify citizenship in an email, he claimed to never have received my application including my social security card through is secure server then suddenly claimed to have found it, then claimed he has been in business since the 1970's when public records show the company was created in 2004.) He continues by leaving a threatening message on my voice mail in an attempt to scare me, in response to an email I sent asking him to remove my information, and telling him I would be filing reports.

I did apply for this project based on the listing from an online job site. That does not mean he should be allowed to scam me. I am tired of being scammed, as are many looking to work from home. This is an attempt to warn others so they don't go through the hassle and give this company such vital and private information -- I'm not out to get anyone.
