HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. (Dow Jones)--Career Education Corp. (CECO) said today that American InterContinental University has been placed on a one-year probation by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
No reason was given as to why the university was placed on probation. Representatives from Career Education and the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools couldn't be immediately reached for further comment.
"We are committed to addressing the commission's concerns while continuing to provide quality education to our students," AIU Chief Executive George Miller said in a written statement.
Shares of Career Education recently plunged 6.7%, down $2.62, to $36.22 in Nasdaq composite trading.
American InterContinental University was accredited by the commission to award associate, bachelor's and master's degrees.
