My daughter an I were invited to a wedding in Vatican City in September, 2007.There was to be one week of black tie events and receptions. We decided to spend a week in Paris and then one week in Cannes France before flying to Italy.

We purchased 2 first class tickets from France to Rome. The flight was only a little over an hour and we wanted to insure our bags would arrive safely if we flew first class and our service would be a little better as we had been told Alitalias flights were not very comfortable. What we were warned was an understatement. The plane was filthy and the service was on the par of a cattle car.

When we arrived at Rome airport our bags were not there. After waiting in line for approximately 2 hours we were told our bags must have been put on a flight to Spain and they would deliver our bags to our hotel the next day. After copious telephone calls everyday for 9 days our bags were not found. Sometimes we would call baggage claims and put on hold for as long as an hour and then disconnected. Customer Service was rude and completely disinterested in our plight. We were finally told it would take 90 days for the bags to be determined lost and they were sure our bags would eventually be found. NO Compensation was offered or allowed for 90 days.

After returning home we were advised to send them a detailed report of lost items including values to all items along with what proof of purchase, baggage tag and copy of passports. After complying with their request it took them 3 months to reply. of course within this 3 month time frame we tried to resolve our problem by making telephone calls everyday but we could not get any to answere telephone calls or return telephone calls if we were able to leave a message.

Finally I received a letter dated November 16, 2007 on November 29, 2007 with a request to send again all previously sent (sent by registered mail). Mr. Carlo Inzirillo said Alitalia was not accepting any responsibility for our lost baggage at this time and that he was sorry for our inconvenience but they would have to further investigate this matter. As of today I am unable to contact this Mr. Carlo Inzirillo eventhough I have complied with all requests by certified mail and by a written response by fax.

In summization of this most extreme disregard and lack of customer service given to me I think Alitalia is the worst airline or business anyone could ever do business with. I Strongly advise anyone considering flying on Alitalia to walk, ride a bike, take a train or fly another airline.

By the way, Thank God for that little black dress and a multitude of scarves I wore for 9 days.
