Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
Where to start? It's about 5 pm and I get a knock at my door. Its a man saying that I can clean one area of carpet in my home for free and all he wants is for me to tell friends and family. Sounds fair enough. Plus, he told me my neighbors were getting it done to. So I figure what could be so bad about free carpet cleaning?

He tells me that he will be back with his equipment and if I can just move a few things around. So 15 minutes later there is another knock at my door, except this time its a young man in his early 20's (we will call him Jerry) and another man probably in his 30's. The man in his 30's (we will call him Jack) Jack and Jerry come into my home and Jack tells me Jerry will be shampooing my carpets today and then he leaves.

So Jerry starts assembling the vacuum, and asking me a bunch of questions. Then he starts feeding me a sob story about how he takes care of his 19 year old sister and she pays for nothing. I am guessing this story is specifically tailored to me, as I am a 21 year old mother of two small boys. He goes on to tell me how he has to sell these vacuum's in order to get a scholarship and that he also has a chance to win a free trip to Hawaii.

I tell him how funny I am from Maui and plan on moving back as soon as I can get my husband to move with me. He tells me how is mother is from Oahu and he would love to go back as well. Not sure how much of this true, but at the time I didn't think to second guess it. Why would he lie?

All the while almost two hours of him showing me all the crap my vacuum has missed, how my vacuum suction sucks, how I couldn't possibly want my children playing in this filth, giving me more of the sob story has gone by. I have my two year old running around stepping on all of these disks and my 8 month old who is crying because he is hungry. I breastfeed and there was no way I felt comfortable nursing in front of these guys. By this point I am exhausted and just want them to leave.

Then he insists on going in my room to clean my mattress. Um, no i tell him. He asked me probably about 12 more times and I keep saying no. So he calls his manager to inform him I will not let him do the mattress demo.

With his manager on the phone he asks if I like the vacuum. Well of course I do. They ask if i would like to buy one. I tell them no I couldn't possibly afford a $2000 vacuum. I am a college student with two kids. He says well we can get you a great deal, I kindly tell him no again.

He hangs up with the manger nd tells me he will shampoo my carpets. Finally, the free carpet shampoo. Nope, he literally cleaned 2 square feet of my carpet!! Really? False advertising if I have ever seen it.

After me saying no numerous times I somehow after three hours of a demo get suckered into buying this machine. I literally have no clue how I got suckered into buying this. As soon as they left I started hysterically crying thinking about how many things I was taking away from my boys by having bought this vacuum.

I feel like the biggest idiot, especially after having done my research and finding out that the kirby sentria 2 retails for 1400. I will be paying almost $3000 by the time this vacuum is paid off. I immediately have buyers remorse and decided to use the three day lemon law in order to cancel the contract.

So, I call All Star Marketing Inc on Saturday 02/09/13. I ask the lady if this is Kirby and she sounds thoroughly confused. I tell her how I purchased a vacuum and would like to return it. Then she seems to know what I am talking about and tells me that she will have Jack over to my house and I just need to sign the paper. 5 hours go by and no one shows up.

I call back and tell her how no one has showed up and she starts yelling at me telling me she would never say that and how I am a liar. She goes on to tell me that I have to send the paper to their office via certified mail and then after they recieve my paper, only then will Jack call me to make arrangements to pick up the vacumm.

Hmm, she just bought herself 2 days because now I have to wait until monday to mail out my paper seeing how it is after 6 pm. Well I did mail out my paper yesterday and I shipped via ups ground and it will be requiring a signature so if they try to ssay they never recieved my contract i know it will be BS.

Thank God, I refused to give them my old vacuum. These people are liars and prey on innocent people. Please, if you get a man claiming they will do free carpet cleaning slam the door in his face.

I am an idiot because I fell for everything hook, line, and sinker. Now I am paying for it. Once you let them in your home they will not leave without a Yes. I must have told them no 100 times and all they needed was my moment of weakness and bam they have you signing your life away.

Kirby takes advantage of people's hospitality

On Aug. 15, 2015 at 8:30 pm, there was a small Indian (maybe Fiji) guy begging and pleading for me to let him in my home to demonstrate a cleaning service. He further said he wouldn't take long and that it was for a competition to show at least 25 people their service in hopes that these people will refer them to both their friends and families. I wouldn't let him in at first and so I got my boyfriend to make the decision. The sales guy end up guilting us to let him in which he promised that he would take only a few minutes, not HOURS!

2.5 hours later they got us to sign that contract, took both our vacuums, leaving us with a tank for a vacuum at 11:00pm. We tried kindly to tell them to leave and stated multiple times that we didn't want their vacuum but they wouldn't take no for an answer. We were basically held hostage in our own home!

We normally go to bed by 9:00 pm, their sales tactic is to mentally exhaust people and use their hospitality against them.

-I completely understand where the lady with two kids are coming from, Kirby reps are TRAINED CON ARTISTS! We got the contract price to be $1800 with $202 in cash rebate. So yes, that poor woman got SCAMED! Me and my boyfriend had no idea a team of people will enter our home nor did we expect that we wouldn't leave. I should have called the police but they were in control in my home.

-To the Mother of two kids: I suggest to report them to the BBB and file a suit in Small Claims. Most small claims cost only $45 to file. You won't need a lawyer, just do your research and file a suit against them. (Lawyers are not permitted in small claims court, so don't worry about suing the company).

They handled the return in a nice manner

I would like to update this to say that they did handle the return very nicely. I got the return receipt from UPS and called to make sure they recieved it. They stated they had and that they should have contacted me to pick it up, I hadn't recieved a call but she informed that she would let them know again. I said thank you and about a half an hour later they came to pick it up. The gentlemen was nice and picked it up no questions ask. Thankful they weren't rude about it like some other's have stated.

And to the first rebuttal, its honestly none of your business who I allow into my home so stay out of my personal affairs. Please and thank you. Btw I live in a duplex and the neighbors door faces mine. We are probably only a couple of feet away from each other, so they can see into my living room and I can see into theirs. They were also getting the carpet cleaning done. So I seen no harm in getting a free carpet cleaning with my blinds open considering the neighbors are about two feet away from me.

All Star Marketing Inc has A+ rating with Better Business Bureau. The company has no control over pricing of used equipment advertised as new on the internet.  At times, customers are not satisfied with the purchase they make. The customer advised the company within their  allotted time for cancellation. The said contract was cancelled and the customer returned the product.

The Real Issue

The real issue here, in my opinion, is that you, a female, with 2 small children, would allow STRANGERS into your home. What in the world would possess you to do something so foolish?
