It is always best to hire someone skilled to do so, unfortunately in most cases these companies dedicated to cancel timeshares usually cheat for the second time to their customers since they are vulnerable and desperate. If you are thinking of hiring them you just have to make sure you do not have to make any payment upfront ... I found these articles that speak precisely about this, you should read them, that might help you to resolve many doubts:

We attended a so-called no obligation breakfast to see Xcaret resort. We were offered free ATV rides which we declined so that we would feel obligated in any way. We soon heard the sales pitch which starts at 60000 dollars. then they eventually drop down to what can you afford as you repeatedly say no. Then they offer lesser memberships supposedly but then add free trips and stays. etc.. These stays are actually what they use to say that you can not cancel your contract because you used or started your contract using the benefits of your contract already. However, check out Mexican Law. you have 5 working days to cancel. We are now dealing with the "Mexican Federal Consumer Protection Agency" and they are there to protect individuals. Please, i know it is embarrassing to admit, but if you have been screwed over by these people, and an Occidental Allegro timeshare, you have at least a year to report them and possibly get out of the contract. At Least, make your voice heard and the more people who send reports the more pressure it puts on them to clean up these kinds of activities.
