Hi, I'm in the Air force and had been an Alltel customer for years. The company had switch hands several times during the period of which I was a customer. My story starts in February of 2000. I had orders to Korea and since my phone was on a month to month basis, I had my wife send in the last payment. Well little did we know there was $28.00 that hadn't been accounted for. This bill kept going somewhere, but never to our new address.

After a few months Alltel turned it over to a collection agency. They sent out three collection notices which again never reached us. When I came back from Korea in March of 2001 and tried to goto the bank and get a loan I was turned down because of Alltel and this collection agency.

I called Alltel and they said it was out of their hands. I asked them which address they had to send the bill to and it was for somewhere I had lived several years ago.

We then called the collection agency to see where they had sent their collection notices. The address they sent them to was my wifes old apartment from when she was in college.

We told the collection agency we would pay the $28.00. their reply was they didn't accept checks and would only take credit cards and account transfers.

Well we ended up sending them a check, but the bad credit rating is still there. If your an Alltel user or thinking of using them BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I did not see you mention that you changed the address to your new one when you paid the bill. This could be the problem. Most times there are some charges after you pay your bill because Alltel in most markets bill in advance for your monthly service fee, but have to bill after the fact obviously for charges such as roaming and long distance.( reason being we can not predict what your long distance or roaming charges will be before you actually use the phone the same way we can predict that if you are on a $29.99 rate plan that fee doesnt change, the only thing you are billed after that is roaming or long distance from the previously month.) You may have also disconnected in the middle of your billing cycle. An address change would have taken care of that or a forwarding address. We get tons of mail back undeliverable and have a department that works to correct this and get the bill to you. We make several inside efforts to collect, before it is even sent to collections and then eventually written off.
