They know that the landlord is responsible. Now, they could pay and then go after your landlord to recover. Have you discussed this with them? I can see renter's insurance covering your belongings in the case of a burglary, but in this situation it makes sense that it would be your landlord's responsibility to cover your expenses and damages. Contact an attorney like I mentioned before, Andrew. If she does have homeowner's insurance, he/she will be able to force that information out of her.

I am Andrew and 'our' owner states she has no insurance or homeowners that will cover us. We have asked her numerous times for her insurance information however she will not say anything to us. WE are out of alot of expenses so you are right. We feel that american family that we have property insurance and out of pocket should be paying this and then go after the owner we are only the middleman. Let me know if anyone with any suggestions. The owner has taken care of the furnace and we found out this weekend there was a component that went out that had to do with the humidifier so she fixed that and bio3 cleaned the furnace up. The environmental company will do airchecks on each floor but still our contents need cleaned. Fairhousing of ohio? We would probably get the run around as well. I did file a complaint with the ohio insurance commission and hope to hear something soon about misrepresentation by american family and not a fair claim result. Any suggestions we are open to.

Here in Mass. if there is a problem with an apartment which makes it uninhabitable (airborne mold declared dangerous is one example), the landlord is responsible for all damages you incur. If you are required to live somewhere else until the problem is resolved, if you have to dry clean all of the clothes you left in your apartment to remove all hint of mold, if you have to eat out during the time in the hotel, anything directly related to the situation must be paid for my the landlord (their homeowners insurance will take care of all of this, I'm sure, so that the landlord isn't out a ton of money). I would imagine this is the same in OH. Have you spoken with Fair Housing for OH yet? Either way you may want to contact an attorney who specializes in landlord/tenant issues. Good luck
