American Matress & Furniture advertised a child's futon/bunkbed in our Saturday local paper. My husband called said company and talked to sales consultant Brad Noonan. Brad assured my husband that the bed was on sale and in stock.

My husband Todd went to said place of business and filled out all paperwork and signed for the bed. Then Brad informed my husband they did not have said bed in stock, and told him they would have to order it from their Bangor, Me. store. And the bed would be in on Wednesday May 21, 2003, and Brad would call as soon as the bed was delivered to the Augusta, Me location.

It is wednesday, and Brad did not call. I Dorothy called Brad Noonan. After some quick talk Brad said he would check on the bed and call me back. Brad called me an hour later and said" Because of a computer snaffoo, the bed's we're out of stock and their company would not be selling this model any longer. I told Brad that we had payed for the bed on his word and good faith, and I would like to know what he and his company we're going to do to make this right. He did not know, and would not speak to a manager about this. I told him I thought they should purchase this bed from a compeditor and make this right. Oh no, Brad replied. We couldn't do that.

We have paid $260.35 for a bed that does not nor never did exhist in the store, and was falsly advertised. The stores policy is NO REFUND,STORE CREDIT & 20% NON-REFUNDABLE DEPOSIT ON ALL SPECIAL ORDERS.

My husband and I we're buying this bed for our daughter, and giving up our water bed and taking her old queen size bed. My daughter is still sleeping on her bed. But after speaking to Brad, my husband and I drainded our water bed, and now we are forced to sleep on a pull out sofa. Does Brad know what it is like to sleep on a water bed for 25 years then all of a sudden be forced to sleep on a pull out sofa? I think not or he would not have lied to my husband and I. I waked up stiff, sore and tired in the morning, I feel as the bed has slept on me. Brad's punishment should be to make our situation right, and sleep on a cement slab for a week and see how humurous he feel's.

Seems like the only people who got ripped off was the company. As an employee of a large retail store, its quite common for that 1 last unit to be missing. But this complaint was filed before the situation was resolved. It was resolved in a more than satisfactory method at the company's expense. Also, I dont like when people use stuff like having to sleep on a sofa or in my case.. gas driving to the store to get something for free. You drained the waterbed not American mattress and furniture.

INCOMPLETE AND INACCURATE INFORMATION

First as an employee/sales manager I have first hand knowledge of this situation. There was no advertisement for a futon bunkbed because we did not carry them in our store in Augusta. Customer called to ask if we had them and Brad Noonan informed customer that we had 1 in stock in our Bangor Location. Customer came in and saw a picture and ordered. Warehouse was unable to locate the piece (an inventory error which sometimes unfortunately happens when you are dealing with a last item from a multiple store chain) Customer was informed that it was not availabe and was offered a refund. This was not satisfactory to the customer so as a customer service we purchased a futon bunkbed from another furniture store (at a higher price than we charged this customer) and delivered it to customer. Perhaps this website should be a little more diligent with followup on such claims instead of arbitrarily posting anything anyone posts without informing businesses or investigating claims.
