I am writing to let everyone know of the terrible service you will receive from APU/AMU. If you ARE indeed considering this school, stay far away! Your aid will not post until well into the semester (or perhaps even after you have finished a class?) and YOU will be left to pay for the classes after you realize that you can't hang in there and you drop out. But, if you have some money to pay for your expenses and books, go ahead a go for it. For others who have to live on a budget... think hard about it.
Am I mad at APU/AMU? Yes. Why? I was told that student aid would be disbursed "approximately 30 days after the first day of classes". Refunds are processed 14 days AFTER the disbursements are processed. Given the fact that the classes are only eight weeks long, I am almost finished with my class and I am still waiting for just the disbursement! Would you be mad? Yes! It has been over 30 days now and I am still waiting for a word from financial aid about my loan. I called them two days ago and they told me that they had a "glitch" in their system and that I should just be patient. I asked the representative if she bought a car for $2,500.00 (approximately what I am currently paying for two classes- inluding books) and found out later that it had a "glitch", would she want to be told to be patient or would she want them to fix her car immediately? Of course.
Am I new to the way online education works? Hardly. I earned two master's degrees and a doctorate from accredited online universities. I enrolled in the APU graduate legal studies program for personal enrichment. It has certainly been enriching. I have been frustrated, angered, dismissed, decieved, and flat-out ignored. No one will return your calls (if you actually get to a message machine) and don't even think about getting any answers from their student services department, as they have a script that they a held to. They are prohibited from providing you with the numbers of anyone of importance or authority.
Here's the REAL issue: The students attending APU/AMU are customers- not just mindless droves of hill-folk. If anyone was paying thousands of dollars for ANYTHING, would they put up with this kind of customer service? I doubt it.
In general, my whole experience has been horrible. This school is the McDonald's of higher education. I am the administrator of a hospital and I can tell you that I will never consider an applicant's degree from APU or AMU as a serious candidate for hire. APU/AMU herds people through the 8-week courses like cattle. There is simply not enough time to process the material on a measurable level. They may have the diploma, but not the education or understanding to justify it. Look elsewhere... for your own sake!

I had the same problems with the exception that the Associates Degree I got from American Public University was Worthless!!! It seems like everyone has the same problem with the financial aid department with the lies they told reguarding your funds. Make sure the degree you are getting is really what you are recieving because like I said mine is useless and tiolet paper is worth more then the so called degree. So beware everyone!!!! Not only is the financial aid department a nightmare BUT make sure the degree is what you paid for not just something they threw together like they did mine. Two years I spent and for what? Nothing, the Associates degree is worthless!!!! Don't get scammed go to the traditional school at least you will get a degree that you can put towards your career and not just a piece of worthless toilet paper!!!!
