I was billed on March 29, 2004 for 119.90 for renewal of services to Ancestry. On May 1, 2004 I got my Visa bill for closing date April 27, 2004 and saw the billing. I called on the next business day, May 3, 2004 to cancel the service, only to be told that I could not. The representative told me that I had agreed to automatic renewal and since the billing was in March, and I was calling in May that there would be no refund.

To make matters worse, Ancestry in limiting access to the services I had signed up for by only allowing you to see a few records before disabling them, requiring you to sign back in and start over.

Do not support Ancestry and for sure do not give them your credit card number.

Dispute the charge and complain, don't let them tell you no!

You have 60 days from the day the charge was posted to your credit card. Call the number on you credit card and dispute the charge. Don't take no from your credit card company either. http://www.ripoffreport.com/reports/ripoff88458.htm It has not been unusual for long waits at Ancestry.com's 800 number that you are required to call to cancel. Also COMPLAIN. Below are 4 links for that. https://rn.ftc.gov/pls/dod/wsolcq$.startup?Z_ORG_CODE=PU01 >http://complaints.bbb.org/Welcome.asp >http://www.consumeraction.gov/state.shtml http://www.ifccfbi.gov/index.asp
