I got an Instant Message from someone named Locamomma1 asking to confirm an order that I had made for a new computer. Only I hadent ever been to aol shop @ home ever.

Also the charges were for 1,300 dollars worth of crap. Me and my wife just got service set up through aol aboout 4 days ago.

They then said to cancel my order that they would need the my password that I use to sign in under.

This is bull s**t and I am very pissed becuase I have never nor do I plan on ever ordering anything online.I am now stuck in a position were I do not know how to cancel the order becuase i am not familiar with the internet at all.

The password stealing scam....

#2Consumer Suggestion

Meanwhile aol is the source of many ripoffs, this is not from them. This is a widespread very dangerous scam - practiced by thousands of scammers. They call you, send you e-mail, instant messages - claiming to be from a legit business/bank, and requesting your password to "verify your order", to "give refund", to "cancel your order" , to "verify your account" etc. They want your PASSWORD, so they can have access to your bank/aol/other accounts. Legitimate businesses/banks NEVER ask you to tell/send them your password/pin. Exactly for security reason - to prevent emloyees to steal, use your password. What should you do? If you do not give out your password, you do not have to worry. There is no way any merchant from the AOL shopping network to contact buyers via Instant Message. This was the guy's story only - to get your password. If you want to be really sure, that there is no any order on your name: contact AOL Shopping Help 1-800-349-1945 available from 7:00 am to 11:00 pm EST, 7 days a week. If you gave the guy your password, the most important, to call your credit card company. (I assume you used a credit card to sign up for aol service.) Look for the number on your credit card or on the credit card statement. ("Reporting stolen or lost credit card") Call the bank, and tell them what happened. They can either stop all charges from AOL, or issue you a new card. They can help if somehow any charge went through. Then, try to contact AOL costumer service - this is the harder part. Unfortunatelly they do not have fraud hot line:-( Try: 1-888-265-8003 Billing - to request a stop for shopping charges Another number for billing: 1-(800) 827-6364 (8:00 A.M. to 2:00 A.M. Eastern time, 7 days a week) 1-888-265-8004 Screen Name/ Password - to request a new password I hope your password is still safe... You will get many similar e-mail, message - always ignore them..... If you gave out your password, contact your credit card company. (I assume you signed up for AOL by using a credit card?) Call the number on your card or statement - "Reporting stolen or lost card." Tell them what happened, they will help. Then try to contact AOL -
