Ref: ARA, Inc. Collection Agency

In July, 2013, I received a letter from ARA, Inc. stating I owed Fifth Third Bank $5,775.06 but is so old they could not collect or sue via a lawsuit. ARA states that if I pay them $179.00 within 60 days, the debt would be completed resolved and I would not continue receiving threatening letters from collection agencies.

I contacted Fifth Third Bank as I've never had an account with them. They verified with my name and SSN this was true and it was true. I contacted ARA with this and they said it shows up in my credit reports and I betterpay or else they will send out an agent to make the collection. I ignored their thereat, and during this period, I moved. Today, Dec 6th, 2013, I received another letter with my current address but this time, they want $279.00 fee!

I realize this is a scam as verified by the bank. I would like to know who I could contact to report these crooks. Please call me or send email. Thankyou. I feel these sort of Rip-Off gangsters should be harshly dealt with and without delay. Reports on this Company (ARA, Inc.) have been going on too long.

I received a letter from the Fifth/Third Bank (5th/3rd) Dated 02/04/2014, from a Regulatory Support Specialist (withheld name for security). I had filed a complaint against ARA, Inc. with the Attorney General of Missouri. The person at 5th/3rd wanted me to contact via letter, FAX, or phone. They wanted further information  including my personal data (Social, etc.). Person stated they located a debt that might be the one in question but is very old and not being pursued. Possibly the debt has been sold to various Collection Companies! My belief is that if in fact there is a debt that it has something to do with my ex-wife and we were divorced, etc. I called and told person that since it is not being pursued, and ARA, Inc (a purpoted Collection Agency)  which as noted on Ripoff.com as a phoney company, that I will not pursue any further as it has never showed up on the 3 Reporting Agencies. Person agreed that was a wise decision, (don't rattle the Hen's nest) and I said I will just assume that ARA may continue to mail me threatening collection letters which I will egnore. As far as I'm concerned, my case is closed but I'm angry that the Missouri Attorney General's office contacted 5th/3rd and gave them my current address. They should had contacted me first and just noted to 5th/3rd about A.R.A.'s threatening collection letter's to consumers.

I recently had a very similar experience with ARA, with the calls and the threats of wage garnishments and such from a Bank of America account they claimed was mine. I had an account with BoA 15 years ago at least, this phone call from Tammy Blomberg informed me that I owed $13,350.78, $7000 of which was interest. The account number listed on their email looked as if it were an old credit card number and I never had a credit card with BoA.

They had me believing that I owed this money and I even was stupid enough to give them my debit card number to pay a settled amount of $2600. Afterwards I thought about it, I did research and I called an attorney in my local area by the name of Robert Peters, he in turn contacted a business associate, another attorney in Illinois by the name of Michael Agruss. Michael and I spoke about the harrassment and the threats, he had me consent to retain his services at no charge and I agreed. In one email to A.R.A from Mr. Agruss A.R.A stopped any payments to be taken from my account plus they pulled my information from there system.

There are laws that protect consumers from scams like this from collection agencies, you just have to look for help. In some instances you can have money awarded to you from these collection agencies for violating the collection laws.

Mr. Agruss's toll free number in Illinois is: 888-572-0176.
