I worked for AT&T sales for a short while. Actually it was a company that AT&T OUTSOURCES to for sales. If you called responding to a mailing advertising a FREE Nokia Phone, you were set to be RIPPED OFF. I know first hand--they trained me. First of all, the phone is advertised as FREE-but you had to pay for it and wait for a REBATE. This is a ploy to get your money UP FRONT and they play the float time and wait THREE MONTHS to send your rebate. (Think of all the INTEREST they're earning on YOUR MONEY.)

Next, I was supposed to PUSH ACCESSORIES down customers' throats. That's where the money is for AT&T. All the accessories are OVERPRICED and are EXACTLY THE SAME as the ones you can get YOURSELF at an electronics store.

Imagine how I felt when customers constantly would say "IS THE PHONE F R E E ??? " I would have to tell the truth and say, "You have to pay for it, but AT&T will send you a REBATE in 6-8 weeks."

I got so SICK of being of part of this RIP OFF that I simply quit.

They filed the following rebuttal to the above Rip-Off Report: Their email: [email protected] Their name: Nonya Their relationship to the company: Supporter Rebuttal: So...the customer pays nothing for their phone after they get their rebate. Considering the seemingly hundreds of companies and industries that use rebates to help bolster their sales, I assume you believe that anyone who offers mail-in rebates (or any after-sale rebates) is ripping off their customers? You point out that accessories are available at an electronics store? At least the customer has an option! I know of too many companies where the accessories are only available through them and at that point you are REALLY stuck. I just don't see the problem here unless you were simply a bad salesperson and have a gripe to air. That is a shame but not a ripoff.
