During the month of August, 2013, I rented a car from Avis. I renewed the car multiple times, until I received a a couple of calls from Avis to return the car to the nearest location. I returned the car, and was billed not only for the rental, but several additional fees as follows: One way fee (at their request) $25 Late fee (21 days ) $210 Misc. fees (unexplained) $355 Extension fee $10 Customer service at Avis could not explain the misc. charge of $355. In addition, I received numerous letters from someone at Avis claiming that I owed an additional $100, with no explanation. I contacted their customer service department, and the agent told me the account was paid in full. However, Avis turned the $100 request over to a collection agency and notified me that I was on their "do not rent list." As if I ever would! The additional charges from Avis put my credit card over the limit, and so I have been billed additional fees from my card company as well. Avis is a RIPOFF, and should be put out of business.

Please understand I do not represent the avis budget group with their official consent on this site, but I do wish to try and improve this issue as I deal with this from time to time as an employee of the ABG. Now, when you were told to return, its likey for one of two reasons. The car was recalled by the manufacturer for safety reasons or upon attempting the multiple extentions at some point your card had stopped clearing for the amount. We hold the funds as you extend, but do not finalize anything until your return. If this was the case, you would have been instructed to immediately return the car. From the charges youve spoken of, Im curious as to what they actually were for. We charge a 10$/day late fee if the rental goes beyond the listed return date, there is also a 10$ fee per extention, however we only allow 3 extentions per contract, and each contract is valid only 30 days at a time. With all this said Im thinking something went wrong with the funds on your card OR, you ran out of extentions and wasnt informed (which I do not condone). This would explain the 210$ misc. Fees. The extention fee is impossibly 355$, so it has to be from something else on the contract. If you have your reciept, read it again very carefully. If you were told by customer service that the contract was paid then call them again and ask for accounting. They are in charge of all the billing, that will be your most effective option. Dont let this sit. We deal with hundreds of thousands people and each contract is fairly unique in situation so mistakes happen. This could be detrimental to your credit if handled improperly. In the intrest of both "We try harder" and our current motto "Customer led, service driven", I would be happy to review the contract myself. Since email address arent allowed to be posted, just post your rental agreement number (Top left corner of receipt and contract ) or your reservation number. I can look everything else up and be happy to explain it thouroughly as well. Sincerly, Truthseeker
