Barrister contacted me about doing work for them in my area. Barrister agreed to pay me an initial fee to go onsite and replace equipment, and then an hourly rate for any additional work that needed to be done such as troubleshooting. I made very sure that the work was completed correctly and Barrister's customer was happy.

2 months have gone by now and I've delivered there bills along with late notices. I contacted their AP people, or [email protected]... and the girl wanted to hassle me for information they did not give me initially. I got her the information she wanted and when it finally came time to pay, they did not want to pay me for what they had agreed to pay, rather they payed for about a third of the service.

When they initially contacted me about this work, they contacted me as a IRS 1099 employee. When I was talking to their AP person, she told me that I was an employee they just don't withhold taxes from your check, nor do they pay any taxes on your behalf. Luckily I did not do an excessive amount of work for them.

After further reading I found in various newsgroups that they have done similar things to several companies since hurricane Katrina hit Louisiana in 2005. This is just a warning, so hopefully in the future someone doing work for this company, when they do a search will find out that Barrister will do what it takes to get you onsite, but in the end they'll be dodgy on paying you. They are a ripoff and have done this to several individuals.

Barrister hired me, dispatched me, and then after driving most of the morning informed me that they had someone else to do the job.  I received such a run around about getting paid, that I went to the BBB and filed a complaint.  The BBB is as useless as Barrister.  Despite me having all the proof, paperwork, and contract, the BBB could not resolve the issue, and Barrister simply brushed me aside.  I spoke to many people at Barrister to attempt to get the case resolved, but they have no desire to pay me for the trouble they even admitted to.

AVOID Barrister at all costs.  Do not accept a contract from them, and if they should call you, hang up, if they should email you, trash it.

To top it all off, they sent me an offer to do a job in Calgary, more than 1500 miles from my home, and offered me a whopping $45 to take the job.  You cannot be serious Barrister!  AVOID THIS COMPANY.

I've read through every single report on Barrister and it seems to me that all the lies Jennifer post etc. and those wanna be rebuttals from their corporate offices are nothing but a bunch of BS. It's a rehearsed and scripted response and she and the others at Barrister don't give a damned about you techs, the clients or client companies or customers worth one iota. All they care about is the money supposedly that they are in actuality ripping off out of the clients and customers pockets not necessarily the field PC techs pockets. Although I find fining a company 625 bucks or whatever it was for all those visits on a printer etc. to fix it utterly ridiculous and stupid. Look Barrister either pay up or get sued. I hope these client companies, customers and techs take you to the courts and to the bank and cash in. Also all who have complaints about Barrister don't just spew them here get the media involved and drag these scam artist through the mud like needs to be done. And I thought politicians were greedy. Seems to me y'all are cheating the system Barrister and cashing in on this hurricane Katrina junk just to make a few million dishonest bucks each year. How can you call yourself a reputable and fine company when you're as filthy as the crap coming out of the butts of millions of animals and human beings each year? Y'all are as filthy as a clogged up sewer. But pay up or get sued and be sure your sins will find you out because this will come back and bite you in the a*s and hard one day. Corruption sucks.

Paying technicians promptly and correctly is a priority for our company. Payments are generally prepared approximately 21 days following the receipt of all documentation and information from technician closing the call. Technicians must call from site to close calls, return parts correctly and fax or scan the signed receipt for service. Once those simple steps are followed, payment is made to technicians. Barrister maintains an email address, [email protected], which is monitored and answered daily. If a tech has a problem with payment, of any kind, he should email this address stating the work order number in question and a brief description of his issue. He will receive an answer within 5 business days.

Well after I posted my report, I got in touch with Barbara Soape, who along with the accounts payable department seems to be participating in this scheme. I'm almost positive she is one that initially contacted me to do the work, and works right under the executive management of this company. This company is supposed to be woman owned, and boast of it, but apparently a man runs the place. So much for all the boasting if it really doesn't mean anything. Anyway, here's some additional information on the CEO, in case anyone needs to contact him. He's a fine individual, so fine that he approves of the scheme to not pay people for work done as agreed upon and to pretend to hire you as a 1099 contractor, then treat you as a W-2 employee.
