I don't know what the laws are in your state, but in Illinois a former employer can only verify dates of employment. The employer is not to comment on anything else. Have your friend check the laws. This Shelly person might be in some big trouble.

I took my friend who was listed here as the employee that was terminated for .. insert favorite reason here... to an interview today he was taken aside by tha manager just out of my earshot and was told basically the following " we contacted shelly ( note here he told them not to contact her) and she had NOTHING good to say about you if this had been a reference you would not be hired" Also she has been spreading malicious rumors about him saying he is unworkable with etc,etc, this said i would hire him in a heart beat if it was my place to hire him i've known him for many years he on occasion doesnt listen to the managers but then again.. if theres no manager there then there is no manager to report a problem to, hence subways reasoning, if this continues there will be a lawsuit ut of it also one other note ( hes here reading this) he metioned that hsi last check was cut by a minimum of 10 hours if not more
