BB&T Bank came in and took over the fine bank we had used from time to time.

We had just lost our young daughter through a very unexpected and horrible death, and were desperately in need of a loan to help with some of our resulting expenses (no insurance and a funeral bill over $6,000).

However, we only borrowed $500.00. We soon became even more financially in dire straits when my wife suddenly became very critically ill, and was not able to work. She had to be hospitalized under emergency orders from her Dr., for an immediate blood transfusion (8 units!), and was very near death according to the Dr. She had no insurance and we were again faced with a bill of over $6,000.

During all this we didmt know the bank had sold to BB&T, so when we got notice we are being sued by BB&T, we thought it was an error because we had never done business with them. Also with them being in Tennessee and we being in Ga., can they sue us? We are elderly and live on a very small social security check, and nothing more. This barely covers the bare necessities. We feel BB&T are being too cold-hearted and should allow me to make affordable mpnthly payments and should withdraw the civil lawsuit. We are honest people just having some bad luck.

Please, BB&T, have some heart!!!

Richard

#2Consumer Suggestion

Mon, July 01, 2002

Let me start by saying, I am very sorry for your hard times. I use BB & T and have had numerous small problems with this bank. I'm not exactly sure how your states laws are, but where I live, when a bank buys out another bank, they have to mail you a letter stating this before 30 days of take over. My first suggestion is to contact their main office either via phone @ 336-733-2000 or mail them BB & T Attention Accounts Supervisor 200 West Second Street Winston-Salem, NC 27102 or use their complaint form @ www.bbandt.com If you send them a letter, make sure you attach a copy of your report and go into more detail on the situation with them, attach a copy of the letter you recieved addressing a lawsuit, even a copy of the envelope (if you still have it) and any other papers that would affect the out come (bills, etc.) Make the letter return recite certified, that is very important. In the meantime, you need to consult an attorney, don't sign with any, just tell them that you need some information on your situation. Ask them about the state laws of notification. It doesn't matter where the suit is coming from, they HAVE to go by the state in which you live. Ask them about disability coverage from banks. In some states, because your wife was unable to work and under doctors care, there may also be a disability coverage which can protect you and your family. Because your on social security, their may also be away SSI can get around it. Don't be afraid to ask them questions. The best thing to do, is to make a list of all the questions you want to ask the attorney. If still nothing is resolved, your state can help you. Your Department of Social Services can point you in the right direction. Good Luck, I hope things get better for you.
