My husband and I each have a CD that was opened at Susquehanna Bank. During the term of the CDs the bank was taken over by BB&T. The maturity date on the CDs is TODAY. I called the bank to ask about current rates and redemption. The rates are low so I asked Susan to prepare our withdrawal checks for pick up. She said she could not get them ready; we have to come in. 

So we drove to the bank. Even though she had no other customer and there were 2 other open tellers we had to wait over 20 for Susan to allow us into her office. After another 10 minutes of her messing around on her computer she said she was not able to do "maintainence" on the account. I became very vocal about the fact that all of our paperwork stated 12/4 as the MATURITY date and that when I called she said nothing about having to wait until the day AFTER the maturity date to actually get your money out.

Since 12/5 is a Saturday that means they actually get to keep our money interest free until Monday when we can deposit it into another bank.

I believe the bank is guilty of consumer fraud by holding our money beyond the stated maturity date. We wasted over 45 minutes driving to and from the bank and WAITING, and wasted the fuel to do so. 

We should be compensated for our time, frustration and expenses, as well as the lost interest. And the bank should be required to disclose to all customers that the maturity date is NOT the date on which you can actually redeem your CD.
