My husband and I purchased an Olympus SP-500 UZ camera from Bennett's Camera on September 21, 2006. The sales representative, Mr. Gerald Jenny - to make a long story short - removed the packaging once the sale was finalized. Now, the store has a 14 day return period. SEVEN days following the purchase of this camera - we discovered that Olympus had released a new model featuring Image stabilization. The following day, I called Mr. Gerald Jenny and spoke with him at length - explaining that we're not happy with the camera due to the quality of the photo's taken (blurry without image stabilization). I asked if they would be willing to take the camera back and credit our account so that we could purchase a camera that we WOULD be happy with. Despite being eight days over the return policy date - they would gladly take the camera back and credit our account provided we had the packaging material.

Today, Mr. Jenny refused the refund due to the fact that he REMOVED the packing material upon the finalization of the sale - strangely enough, he could not recall doing this - and conveniently stated that he was late for a doctor's appointment and promptly left the store once my temper started flaring up. So he shoved me off onto another sales representative - who also refused the refund due to the same reason. I got my husband on the phone while the sales representative went to speak to the owner of the store. Upon his return, I handed my phone to the sales representative who gave my husband an entirely NEW reason that the *owner* of the store was refusing a refund ... "the camera smells like smoke, we cannot sell this as a new camera."

Needless to say, I called Olympus while I was still in the store and left a message for them in hopes that this issue can be resolved.

Following my post here, I will also be filing reports with local officials and the Federal Trade Commission.

Since I have always been one to play fair - I felt the need to post here immediately with the GOOD news that I have personally received a call from Mr. Bennett today with an apology and the promise to exchange the camera for the newer model when it he receives it. And, I feel again that I must extend MY apologies to Mr. Bennett for my verbal barrage inflicted upon him and that of his employees - as my words were pure reaction. And again, Mr. Bennett - thank you for being honest in regard to this situation. As this issue has finally been resolved in a fair and polite manner - we will continue making purchases from your store.

I had originally posted the purchase date as being September 21, 2006. The purchase date was actually AUGUST 21, 2006. I apologize for the error, as I was still *fuming* when I typed the original post up.
