In Feb of 2001, my husband was in danger of being downsized due to his company being bought out. He had an associates degree from a univeristy in NY, and was working on a degree from Devry. With that in mind, we decided to look at a professional placement agency to see what they could do to help him find another job. We kept seeing Haldane's ad in the Sunday Kansas City Star, so we decided to look into them. That was our first mistake! These people are slick. They make used car salesmen look like beginners. We got the whole treatment--"Why, yes we have contacts in Arizona and Colorado" (we had mentioned relocating to both places) "we can put you on our nationwide network where prospective employers will see the resume WE help you write" and on and on. Yeah, right.

My husband went through their routine of 'interview training' and 'meeting with his advisor' as they requested. That was after we gave them $5000.00, and only had 24 hours or so to take advantage of the deal. That should have set off alarms on its own, but we weren't thinking real straight just then. Unemployment doesn't pay very well, and we really believed these 'gentlemen' would connect us with a network of employers we could work with. Second mistake. All my husband got out of the deal was extra miles on his vehicle running down to their offices, and not having his phone calls returned.

They mislead me, too. I understood them to say that THEY would find my husband a job. They don't. All they tell you is to go out and start writing what basically amounts to form letters and mail them to people/companies you'd like to work for. It's cold searching, and we didn't need to spend $5000.00 to pick up that little piece of information. What dummies we were! If they have a network set up with prospective employers all over the US, they're keeping it a secret from us.

The final insult came a few months ago when my husband needed confirmation that he had undergone 'professional career counselling' training for DeVry, and they said they would accept a letter from Haldane verifying this. You'd have thought my husband had asked them for their yearly financial statement! He had to call and call and call some more to his 'advisor' and never got his calls returned. Finally he called the slick salesman who had signed us up, and with a bit of bullying, finally got his letter from Haldane. What a joke these people are. STAY AWAY FROM HALDANE. Especially the office serving the Kansas City area. If you need help finding work, go see a headhunter who doesn't get paid UNTIL they find you work!!!

Beware of BHA

I went in this morning for an "assessment" with a BHA Vice President of Client Services. I had my suspicions at the start but wanted to find out if there was anything that BHA might be able to provide to help in my job search. The assessment was just like what I have read in other RipOff Reports. My BS detector first went off when the VP wanted to schedule a second meeting and insisted that I bring my girlfriend. Why??? She has nothing to do with my career search. Then the detector went off again when the VP got very serious about there being a fee for the BHA service. I was told, "We don't know how much the fee will be for us to help you." Really... I'm surprised he didn't just ask, "How much money do you have?" I'm only considering going to the second interview to pull their chain. Imagine a hidden camera and my girlfriend turning out to be a real surprise... Ahh... the fun I could have in the name of all those who have been ripped in the past.
