I went to Best Buy to get a camera. I had a sales associate help me with the purchase. He recommended that I buy an open box item because of the discount. The item had obviously been dropped and he assured me that if I purchased an extended warranty that I would be covered if I had any problems with the camera.

The first time I used the camera in August on my vacation to San Diego. I noticed the viewfinder was fuzzy but I thought it was because of the weather and not the camera. The next time I used the camera again was in early December and noticed the viewfinder was still fuzzy so I took it Best Buy to be repaired.

I have patiently been waiting for my camera to be repaired and have now been told it will not be repaired. Best Buy says the item was damaged due to an impact and will not be warranted. They sold the me the camera in that condition, why was it available to be purchased if it could not be warranted. I have talked to the store from where I have bought the camera and the corporate office and they both say they do not sell dropped items and they will not assist me.

I have always bought everything from them i.e. games, movies, music, appliances, TV's, stereo and have been doing so since they came to the valley and this is the valued customer service I receive. I was misled at the time of purchasing the item and misrepresented on the benefits of the warranty. In addition, I was insulted by the store manager who quote said "when you can't see through the viewfinder, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure the camera is broken."

I work with the public on a daily basis and would never take the approach to customer service as I have received from Best Buy. People in Phoenix go Fry's electronics, Ultimate electronics or Circut City but stay away from Best Buy.

I agree, I use to work with the company and I don't know how many times i kept re-packaging the same thing that kept being returned because it was broke. The techs never really checked it out, or they couln't check it out, so it got a no apparent problem attached to it and sent back to the floor. Also, many times, there are things missing, while, although, we may tell you they are missing, the product is useless without it and the only way to get it is to get it from the manufacturer. When I brought it up to my manager he simply said to mark the price down because it was better to make a littl emoney than to "junkit out" and lose money on it. Sometimes it is open box only because a customer opened it in the store, but usually it is not.

Sorry about the camera. You're not alone.
