I purchased my compaq presario laptop on 2/14/03. I was pressured by the salesman to also buy the extended waranty for $200. He told me i was covered for batteries if nothing else happened to the computer.

Recently my 3 year old accidentally spilled juice on it while i was using it. I called 1-888-bestbuy. The rep told me to take it to the store where i bought it. I told him what happenedto it. He told me it was covered. Of course no one will vouch for that when i called back after being told by the computer department at the store that it wasn't. I had them send it in so that a technician could find out what exactly was wrong with it and how i could go about fixing it.

I went to pick it up and was told that because of the moisture damage my waranty was voided. They would not tell me the exact parts that were damaged and tried to charge me $25 for labor.

I was later told that my "extended" warranty would be pro rated, meaning I would get a percentage of my money back. Hah- what $50?

Basically they stole my money and refused to provide service or atleast $200 worth of repairs. I wouldn't have minded paying the balance, but at least give me something for my money. YOU KNOW!

I will NEVER shop at bestbuy ever again and I will tell anybody who will listen not to either. I know next time that an "extended Waranty" is really a stick up, it's better just to pay for insurance, at least you know you'll get your money's worth.

extended warranties will only cover things under circumstances called "normal use"

Generally, extended warranties will only cover things under circumstances called "normal use" or "normal wear and tear" Spilling a drink on the unit does not fall under either category, so its no surprise they wont honor it. Next time, be more responsible when liquids are around expensive machines.
