I had my oil changed at this location, (twice) as I am fairly new to the area. I drive a lot of miles so I do change it pretty often. Last week, they told me I needed rear brakes and roters turned at a suggested cost of $329. 49. It seemed strange to me, that they didn't even mention any wear issues last oil change and now I need over 300.00 worth of repair.

So I asked a friend if they knew an honest auto mechanic. Monument Auto in Concord was the recomendation. I made an appiontment to have the brakes serviced but expressed my concern that this came up so suddenly. He checked and I had 50% wear on the rear brakes, well within good standing range. I DIDN"T NEED BRAKES AT ALL. I am so angry as a single woman, that they were going to take advangate of me and out and out RIP ME OFF.

Glad I checked some place else

#2Consumer Suggestion

I would call this repair shop and bring this to the managers attention. I would expect the store manager to have a fair explanation and also what he/ she is going to do to prevent this from happening in the future. If you have proof of the initial recommendations and also the other shops rebuttal, this may be necessary. Hopefully the subsequent inspection included information such as thickness of the friction material, drum diameter, factory disgard, etc. If you don't get anywhere with the store manager, I would bring this to the attention of the district office. You can usually get this information from the store or calling the corporate headquarters. If the store is indeed taking part in fraudulent practices, you should also contact the Bureau of Automotive Repair. This is a state office operated as a part of the State Attorney Generals office. When it comes to automotive repair, you have a lot of consumer protection in the state of California. The state takes auto repair very seriously and they would not hesitate to fine the offenders heavily.
