I bought 4 BF Goodrich Traction T/A's from Big O Tires in San Ramon, CA for my 2005 Audi A4 2.0T, and within a year (12,000 miles) the front two were showing cracks in the sidewall, one of which into the cords. That tire got replaced immediately. The assistant manager at Big O, James, told me "it happens all the time", and "probably from rubbing against curbs". He thought the one that just had surface cracking around and no damage to the cords was okay to not replace "should be fine".

One and a half months and one freeway blowout later, it's obvious the tires were all bad for some reason. The back two: one now showing same sidewall cracks and the other one blew out. Front one not replaced is more pronounced. The blowout had the tread fully separated from the sidewall. James, when I came back to find out what could be done about these clearly defective tires, spent most of his time trying to refute there was a problem and even tried to argue that they were the wrong tire for the car (a stupid argument for multiple reasons, including that they sold them to me and that their website still recommends it for my car....he calls to their "tech center" to prove his point, only to find out he was wrong...what a waste of time). Needless to say there was NO mention or concern about my family's safety; a business that should make customer safety the #1 priority should at least say something like "was everyone okay", or "I'm sorry to hear you had something so bad happen". Instead it was just James trying to find ways of brushing it off, just like he did a month and a half earlier, when a frightening freeway blowout could have been avoided perhaps if someone who both knew tires and cared about a customers safety had checked them out instead of these dangerous crooks.

These tires were clearly defective, and I hope the Ripoff Report can help to both spur Big O to do the right thing, and also inform consumers about the dangerous attitude this stores takes when it comes to customer safety. Thank you.

Who is your tire warranty with? Like most businesses, the amount of time you had the tires will excuse the tire shop from any responsibility. UNLESS you have a replacement warranty through the tire shop. have you contacted the manufacturer of the tire and inquired about a warranty replacement? You also did not say if you were demanding a refund or new tires? if you were demanding a refund, that will probably not happen. The best you can hope for is a replacement of the tires with new tires. here is Big O's warranty on non-big O brand tires: "All Other New Tires: * Prorated Manufacturer's Workmanship & Materials Warranty as provided by the manufacturer from day one for the useful life of tire * Free Rotations every 5,000 miles for useful life of tire * Free Flat Repairs for useful life of tire" So you need to contact the manufacturer about a prorated warranty replacement. http://www.bfgoodrichtires.com/warranty/traction-t-a/2136.html BF goodrich support: 1-877-788-8899 Here is what's not covered: WHAT IS NOT COVERED Tires which become unserviceable due to: - Road hazard injury (e.g., a cut, snag, bruise, impact damage or puncture); - Incorrect mounting of the tire, tire/wheel imbalance or improper repair; - Misapplication, improper maintenance, racing, underinflation, overinflation or other abuse; - Operation without a properly functioning low pressure warning system, for Comp T/A and g-Force T/A SSS tires; - Uneven or rapid wear which is caused by mechanical irregularity in the vehicle such as wheel misalignment, (a measured tread difference of 2/32nds of an inch or more across the tread on the same tire); - Accident, fire, chemical corrosion, tire alteration or vandalism; - Use in commercial applications for treadwear; except for the Commercial T/A All Season tire; - Flat spotting caused by improper storage or brakelock; - The addition of liquid, solid or gaseous materials other than air, nitrogen or carbon dioxide (for example, waterbase sealers or balancing substances); - Ozone or weather checking Do your tires have even wear? if the wear is uneven, then it is due to a mechanical issue on your car. This is the main reason tires are declined to be replaced under warranty is uneven wear.
