I purchased a puppy from Brenda Mattson 04/01/2008. Brenda stated pup had slight overbite but was checked by vet and would be good for breeding.

I am not a breeder so I took Brenda Mattson at her word. The pictures she sent did not show any defect of the pups jaw.

The puppy came to me with no shot records, no papers, undernourished, and a severe overbite that required surgery to remove 6 front teeth to prevent them from penetrating the roof of her mouth. The cost of this was $2500!!

I tried to contact Brenda Mattson several times by all means possible and filed a report with the puppyfind web site, which removed her from their membership. She then opened an account under a different name and I filed another report and she was again removed from the web site.

Because of the "rating" I gave her on the web site I was contacted by 2 other buys whose pups were severly ILL....One ladys pup died....Brenda did nothing.

Brenda Mattson is a heartless thief!! She steals peoples dreams of owning a healthy, well bred pup and turns the experience into a nightmare!!!

I have all my documents from my vet and the oral surgen vet to back up this report and I will never stop warning people about Brenda Mattson!

I have also been notified she is back on puppyfind.com with a new phone # which is 715-682-3313

You can contact AKC to see her reports, contact her local chapter as well,
getting a 100% for a breeder is everything 99% is not good at all she has records on everything as well
if you are having a problem with her call AKC and let them know
I am a small breeder  of chihuahuas and a lot of breeders have at least one of her puppys or one of her puppys in there tree, I dont but i know that i will, if you are looking for just a pet you are lucky to get it as a puppy as i dont let my pets go until they are at least 4 mo old and tey are sold fixed.

Please have a understanding about this breed before you buy, I have owned many chihuahuas and know everything about each one of them ... even the puppys that i sold i stay in contact with the buyers,

resource you breeder as well, just because its on the web site dont make it true ask for a person you can call and talk to about her, and ask around a lot of people from all over know of her

I have personally been to Brenda's home - inside and out. There are no cages whatsoever. There are kennels - air conditioned in summer and heated in winter. It is disconcerting when one or two people have problems and that is all people hear. My chi was 15 months old when I received her from Brenda. She was timid yes, I was a stranger to her!!! She is now 3 1/2 years old. She has completed several levels of dog training, has gone through Beginner Rally and we are now contemplating Agility! She is also a registered Therapy Dog and we visit the old age homes in our area. There are literally dozens of Brenda's dogs here in my city. I have yet to hear a bad report from anyone. I am sorry your experience was bad - you can buy cars that don't work well too! But it is unfair that only the bad side of something is only ever heard. People must also learn the difference between a large breeder and puppy mills. I hardly think that the AKC would inspect a breeder and give her a 100% compliance report if she was a puppy mill!!!

Comments and questions, I have owned Chihuahua for over 20 years as Pets! I did what I thought was a very close invest. of Bks Chihuahuas, Brenda Mattson. Talked to her by phone several times, her web site is very nice, checked her gueat book and went by other buyers comments on the web site I found her on. Did I think she ran a puppy mill? No I did not or I would not have purchased a pup from her! My vet has been treating my dogs for over 8 years. She gave me 3 dog dental specialist # to contact. The one I used is over a 2 hour drive from where my personal vet is located. No they were not in cahoots with each other to make money! My pups bite was off by 1/2" so doing nothing was not a option. It was have the surgery done or have her canine teeth poke holes thru her upper palate and into her sinus cavity. In the pictures Brenda Mattson sent me the pup is face towards the camera...If there would have been side views I would have known how severe the overbite was and Brenda Mattson knew she would have lost a sale! Brenda Mattson told me her vet said the pup had a slight overbite. I do know what a slight overbite is...my 13 year old Chi has one. Yes, I did inform Brenda Mattson right away. I tried for over 2 weeks to contact her by home phone, cell phone, e-mail and her web site. Brenda Mattson never responed...not once. Then all of a sudden all phone numbers were non working! As I stated in my 1st post, this pup came with no shot records, no papers and undernourished even though her contract stated I would have all records and the pup was healthy. The fact is she lied to make money!!! I have seen on this site she posted a rebuttal to another buyer but not to mine?? Why do you think that is? Thank you for your time, AEA

Tellingtruths, the situation is really just too confusing for the average pet buyer I think. I do help people check out breeders, and it is just so confusing to them in what to look for and what not to look for. Ultimately, the decision is theirs, but an extra eye from someone who lives in the animal world and knows how to better read between the lines a little better seems to help raise their odds by quite a bit. No complaints yet :-). There is too much information and the word puppy mill confuses people I think, especially since there isn't really a definition for it so it is personal opinion and it also seems that everyone is a puppy mill to someone nowadays. To Aea. Did you have any other vets other than the the original and the doggy dentist evaluate your puppy? I've seen this one plenty of times. There is a father and son duo in particular in my town who is known to do this (son's a vet and dad's an orthodontist). I have seen this even in dogs and breeds with scissor bites (does NOT require surgery and is allowed in show in several breeds including the chihuahua and in bites that were off, but in reality would have caused no problem to the dog in the future). Some breeds are actually supposed to have an over or under bite. How off was this puppy's bite? Are there any inches (like 1/8th, 1/4, 1/2, whatever) in the vet reports you have? I only ask BECAUSE I have seen it so many times, it may be their actual opinion instead of an intention to full on rip people off, but it doesn't mean that is the general opinion, or the truth. In most cases, if it was that bad, it probably would have been apparent in the pictures. Or were there none with a side view, only from the top? I'm just looking for clarification. Do you know if her vet looked at the dog and considered it slight and not an issue? Did you inform her right away, or after the fact? There was NO response from her ever? Or did her and her vet just not agree? *just my opinions*

### NEVER BUY FROM BREEDER UNLESS YOU SEE PARENTS AND PARENTS HOMES****

#6Consumer Suggestion

I am sorry you bought puppies and had problems but You should have known better if a breeder does not want you at their home there is a very GOOD reason for that. PUPPYMILL or it appears as though you are unless you are upfront about where you live. Always ask for vet refrences ask too see all dogs the breeder breeds and this is huge How many different breeds do they breed. If more than 2 RUN .. red flag.. It is a science to better a breed and puppymillers are not bettering anyones lives but their own lives by selling misery and paying their bills off the backs of dogs. I read one bad breeder even posed as rescue and dumps dogs off at 8 mo old. Sad but it happens You need to guard yourself with knowledge. I cannot see how consumers have not gotten the message DONT BUY FROM BYB PUPPY MILLS PET STORES when you buy from the fancy little puppy store with cute clothes when you give the owner of that store 1200.00 you gave a puppy miller 200.00 to cage another animal . Remember when you buy from puppy store you just helped kill that puppys mother That is the way it is sad that people still want to kill / imprison your new babies mom . If you look at any other way you are wrong . Open your eyes You who buy from puppy mills or pet stores have completed the circle of breeding misery How does it feel?

In responce to Brenda Mattson saying she is a good breeder

I have posted a rebuttal to Brenda Mattsons rebuttal that she is a good breeder that only sells healthy pups. She is a liar and a fraud! I will be happy to share my vets info on the condition of the pup I bought from Brenda Mattson on April 1, 2008 to any one who requests it. Amy Crandon, WI

I purchased two dogs from her. She did not want me to go to her home. I should've known then it was a bad idea to purchase from her. The first dog I paid for actually died before I even picked it up! She then offered me an older dog that was not potty trained and so afraid of everyone like it was living in a cage all of its life. She promised me AKC papers and never gave them. Both dogs had severe case of cocidia and worms. Worse case my vet ever saw. They pooped nothing but blood smelled of death it was horrible! One dog had a major eye infection. The other dog was very reserved and afraid of us. He was older. You could tell he was caged all his life. She wanted me to "deliver" puppies for her around where I lived since it would be easier for the new owners to get their puppies and I was going that way anyway. When I refused I think that is why she did not give me papers. The dogs were not up to date on shots or wormings. You could just tell they lived in cages. They were afraid, smelled, just all bad! I made a mistake I will never do it again! She refused to answer my calls. She is a puppymill she has multiple dogs and breeds stuck in cages. Her daughter is following in her footsteps too and breeds many dogs at her home. They are not living in her home as she suggests. Horrible person. My dogs cost me more than I could afford and in the end found new homes for them since they were just sick all the time. Now I am afraid to even get a dog due to what she put me through. She was getting nothing but negative feedback on puppyfind. She keeps trying to make fake accounts on puppyfind so that people do not see her negative feedback. When I complained on puppyfind I met 6 other people that had the same problems with her. Just wanted to give my 2 cents. There is so much more, but I think you get the point!

Brenda Mattson of BKS CHIHUAHUAS also gave me a bad dog!!

First of all.. I got AKC papers from her daughter and when i got home and looked further into them, they had no numbers on them! They were applications to register. Now, i paid for an akc registered pup, why did she rip me off? Maybe because she figures the buyers know nothing. My puppy pablo is now 8 months old. at 3 months old, i found out that my puppys t******e didnt drop (one of them). She would have been able to know that when the puppy was given to me. Also, this condition is genetic and came from the father. My poor chihuahua had to go through surgery a week ago because otherwise the t******e in his stomache would cause cancer. I e-mailed brenda to inform her of giving me a bad dog and i have gotten zero response. I am not satisfied with this so called "breeder" and so i reccomend anyone wanting to buy from her .. DONT!!
