I had signed up for a Bluebird card because I thought it would it be a good no fee or low fee debit card.  I intended to use it for direct deposit and miscellaneous purchases.

 

I had read a number of complaints about their service, particularly their non-english speaking reps. but I wasn't really concerned since I only planned on using it for simple transactions.



When I signed up for the card I signed up as B. Last Name.  My credit cards are like that because in case I lose it then at least the thief doesn't know my name.

I got the card and don't use it much - I have a few monthly subscriptions I use and load it with cash at Walmart, Very easy and all was fine.  I did get locked out one time and it was a really big deal.  After holding for a 1/2 hour and talking to someone who was english-challenged, I had to send all of my ID to some security fax and my account was unlocked.

My federal refund checks are due and I figured great - I'll deposit them.  One was an old tax refund so that comes as a paper check and the one wiouldbe direct deposited.

 

I got the check and deposited it with the app and it was rejected.  It looked fine to me so I tried again and it was rejected.  I went on the site and read and I saw that the name on the card has to match the name on the check so I figured I'd call and straighten out.  I spoke to two people who both spoke poor english and they kept going on and on about a name change.  It's not a name change. they have my name. It is just puitting the first name on the card. I was told to fax my stuff (again) to security. I did and they emailed me and said sorry they can't do it.

 

I faxed and asked for a supervisor to look at it.  I told them I am not calling again and to either put in my first name or close the account.  Haven't heard back.

 

It seems that all the complaints are on target.  If you have an issue, their service is atrocious and that makes me nervous about evenputting any funds on the card.

 

I opened another debit card card and they cashed my tax check immediately.

The one that will go to Bluebird will now get rejected, sent back to the IRS and I won't get it for months.

 

Since you can't count on them to provide any kind of service, I'd recommend avoiding them!
