Complaint Review: Bounce Interactions - Manhattan New York

Do you like going to the worst areas of NYC and trying to give away s***** free Obama phones to people for $9 commision? If so. Bounce Interactions is the place for you!

I recently moved to NYC and am looking for work. I applied to several jobs on ZipRecruiter and got an email back from "Bounce Interactions" saying they reviewed my application and resume and would like to schedule an interview. 

"Great!" I thought. "Marketing job in Manhattan? I'm gonna be the wolf on wall street this time next year" (not really but you get the idea, I was excited) 

Note I have very little professional skills and I'm underqualified for pretty much everything. 

So I set up an interview and they tell me to dress "business professional" which furthered my delusions 

I arrive at a very nice office not far from Time Square at about 12pm. I sit and wait for them to call my name. Finally, they do after about 20 minutes or so. 

I nervously walk into the office and am greeted by an attractive well-dressed lady who then asks me to sit down. 

She asks me "What could you do for the company?" "Are you good with people?" "Are you a hard worker?" 

I say "Yes!" obviously (I want the job after all)

I ask "Well what is the job?"

She says "We are a marketing firm for Forture 500 companies and are looking to train people for future management positions"  

She then goes on to tell me how they are going to pick only 5 people they interviewed today for the position and they will call me back to tell me if I qualify for a 2nd interview or not.

The whole interview lasted about 3-5 minutes 

I leave thinking I f***** everything up "Oh God, I'm so not gonna get this job. I am too underqualified" 

Low and behold at about 6pm that night I get a call

"Hello, this is (I forgot her name) from Bounce interactions. You must have said something good at the interview because you are now able to come in for a second interview!"

I'm overwhelmed with joy at this point "Wow! they picked me, I must be pretty f***** special" 

The interview was at 8:30am the next morning. Professional AS F***

I'm up by 6:45am and get all dressed up nice again like Patrick f****** Bateman and arrive at the interview on time

Once I arrive, there are several other people there sitting in the waiting room. We are given paperwork to fill out. Nothing worth mentioning really.

The attractive lady comes out again and calls me and 4 others to follow her. 

We do, she says "oh the offices are filled, we'll have to find somewhere outside" and we walk to a nearby pizza place to sit down

Ok, no problem here. A bit weird but no problem really. 

She starts telling us about how they are a marketing firm for cell phone companies (Sprint namely) and how much money we could make and how much traveling people in the company do for business trips to learn from other offices

At this point, my nose started to twitch because if things sound too good, they usually are. But I continued to listen.

She explains to us how "indirect marketing" is no longer effective and how companies are now looking to market directly to the customer.  

At this point, I'm like "Oh f*** please no" 

She then describes these "Events" where they send people to low-income areas and try to market Obama phones to people.

She talks about this for about 5 minutes before I ask

She then says how the hours are 8am-5pm, 5 days a week

"What is the pay rate"

She looks at me with kind of an angry face and says 

"The pay rate is $9 per phone, but if you sell 2 phones and hour. You make 18$ an hour"

At this point, I pretty much knew this was a big ruse but I remained hopeful that I didn't wake up at 6:45am for no reason. (I am not a morning person) 

I ask what the "events" consist of. 

She tells me that its 2-4 people marketing phones to people in low-income areas

Yeah ok f*** this stupid s***. 

I sit quietly and listen to more of her shpiel

She then directs us back to the office and makes us fill out more paperwork.

I figure enough is enough and this is a big waste of time. I ask the use the bathroom and promptly leave the premises.

Moral of the story is, no legitimate marketing firm is going to hire you when you know you don't have any experience. If they start using words like "alumni" or "marketing" and "dress business professional" It's most likely a load of s***. Why are they hiring you if you don't have any experience? Are you some prodigy? Most likely you aren't and they are going to make you do some really REALLY stupid s***. 

F*** those people. They are taking advantage of people who are just looking to make a few bucks.  

I remember being approached by oddly well dressed late teen, early 20s kids in the subway and they try to market me stuff or ask me to donate to something or check some website. I guarantee they were roped in in a very similar way.
